Rhode Island-Still the home of the dumbest people in the USA!

I don't know how one large group of people can be so stupid over and over again. For the last 85 years they have been electing the same crooked politicians and their descendants that their grandparents did.

We have had an inordinate amount of crooked Judges, Mayors, Councilmen, DA's, AG's, etc., etc..

We have three people, Democrats, all vying for the Governors office. Of the three, if I was a Dem, I think I'd vote for Riamondo. Taveras is probably just as able as any of the others to continue the downward slide of this state. They all claim to have some great solution to our problems but at the end of their term we are still in the same quagmire only a little  bit closer to going down for the count.

And then there is the third candidate. This guy has never lived in the state as a full fledged citizen. He only came here in the summer to visit his grandparents for a couple of weeks or so. He keeps spouting off about how we need to get back into the mainstream of jobs, lower taxes,blah, blah, blah! He says we need to get rid of the cronyism, nepotism, crooked bidding, insider politics and contract awarding that has held us back. He is yet to acknowledge that his grandfather was a part of the problem because he was one of the Senators who pushed through a lot of the bullshit laws that we are laboring under even today.

So here we have Mr. Claiborne Pell on the scene.  He comes funded by the millions of dollars left to him from his grandfather or his father. He was an officer in the USCG doing what I have no idea. But with his money and his family connections I would venture to say it was only whatever he wanted to do. A lot of people have  gone into politics practically destitute and retired from an $80-100 K job twenty or thirty years later a multi-millioaire. Wonder where and how they get all that money from sitting in a room in an office building just looking out for we little guys.

Apparently he doesn't want to work any harder than grandpa because he cannot hold a job for more than a year as he has eight different ones in just nine years! Not a very good record for someone who now wants to be the Governor of  this misbegotten state. He has no more experience at being a Governor  than that poser president we now have inhabiting the Whitehouse and issuing his dictatorial decree's.

So here we are, trying to figure out which one of these turkeys is going to be our fearless leader for the next four years and how far they will lead us further down the 85 year old sewer pipe! I have NO HOPE!!!   TIFN

Some Movement

Today there were four or five soccer teams from the mainland and a couple of ours that had the annual tournament  that has been played here for a few years. There were a couple of comments I overheard about how nice the field was. Green Grass! I guess brown is the standard at a lot of the mainland fields.

Well we  put up a good fight and one of our teams advanced to the finals. Won? or not? don't know, had to leave.

The goal of reaching $35K for the underground sprinkler system is well on it's way and is presently at $26+K. So if you can find a few spare dimes in your pocket that no one else has a claim on, please send them to the Ian Kortbek Fund, attn: Heinz Field Fund. T'will be much appreciated.

OBTW, has anyone noticed how all the signs along the dunes on the Neck Road enjoining folks to stay OFF THE DUNES are being completely ignored? No you say? Then you must be blind! It is just steady traffic all day long with nary a thought given to the consequences to the Island or their pocketbook. Oh yeah that's right, there ARE no consequences to the pocket! How about a nice $500 fine for the first offense and a nice round $1000 for the second? Might that give some of these folks pause?

The Town Council should get off it's collective ass and get a few more signs put up along with ones denoting the price you WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IGNORING THEM! Nah! Can't do that! It might hurt someones feelings,and we all know how absolutely necessary it is to respect everyone else's feeling no matter how how egregious they may be!

I know there are only two people reading this but it did my old heart good to get it out there. Maybe I will send this one to the paper also. TIFN

GOING TO TRY AND RESURRECT THIS BLOG

                       

Don't know if anyone on BI still looks at this blog because I have been absent for quite a while.

But now, I have reached a point in my life that I really don't care too much what folks might think of what I have to say.

So to get started, I just wrote a letter to the local paper about  the goings on up at Heinz Field which for those who don't know is the local place where numerous sports events take place. 

There was a lot of money spent on turning it into a really nice field for all the various sports played on such a venue. And then the Town Fathers and Town Mothers just gave up on the maintaining of the place! Didn't want to spend the money to do it. But then spent endless hours haggling over wether it should be fertilized with organic or manufactured fertilizer.

Well the got that settled, it their own minds anyway, then went out and spent another ton of money for the Organic type. That, and a few hundred pounds of grass seed. Then it sat there in a big pile most all of last summer while the grass seed sprouted in the bags and the rest of it just rotted. Off it went to the dump because it was now useless.

What is going on up at Heinz field? More accurately, what isn't going on? I am up there at least two nights a week to watch a few family members participating in various sports programs. Sometimes the grass has been mowed that week and sometimes it hasn't. Playing soccer on an uncut field is just asking for all sorts of knee, ankle, and foot problems.

Whomever is doing the mowing of the field needs to bestir him/herself to get off the mower when an obstacle is encountered and move the damned thing. The way it is done now is to just mow around it and be done! This leaves patches of un-mown grass all over the field. Not good for the aforementioned physical parts when a person running at full tilt tries to kick a ball sitting in one of these clumps.

The driver of the mower or the person doing the maintenance on this mower is NOT doing a very professional job. The mower deck apparently hangs at an angle because thats the way the grass is cut. High on one side of the pass and much closer to the dirt on the other. How hard is it to level the deck? Is anyone checking for such a mundane thing? I check mine after the first pass of every mowing session.

Whatever happened to the mower that had money appropriated at a financial Town meeting a few years ago, with the stipulation that it was to be used specifically for the maintenance of Heinz Field and Ball O'Brien Park? Is this the same machine that has been seen in the winter plowing sidewalks etc. around town? Why is it being used for that, when a much better vehicle would be a snowblower sized specifically to do that job. A much lower cost to we taxpayers for the gas, wear and tear, repairs, then the much larger tractor being employed now would be much appreciated by all of us. Is this the result of someone employing their pen and telephone in the town hall and counter-manning the will of the voters?
We have right now, a fine facility up there. It is used by a large portion of the people of the town. Go up there any Monday or Thursday evening and you will be amazed by the number and diversity of the folks in attendance. It is comprised of little babies in strollers all the way through the spectrum on up to grandparents and other assorted folks. They bring blankets and various amounts of food to consume while there. It is just like the old time picnics we used to go on. This is a varied segment of the population of the Island and shows a great coming together to participate or just watch their family members in friendly competition! There is not a better place to be on these evenings!

There is also right now a fundraiser underway, looking for money to put in an underground irrigation system in the whole of the field. It will keep it lush and green and make it an even more enjoyable place to be. Right now it is kept that way by the efforts of a couple folks who are continually going up there to move the present watering system around, about every four hours throughout the day in order to cover the whole field.

So again I ask, “What is going on up at Heinz field?” How about if the denizens of Town Hall begin taking an active interest in what is an integral, and well used portion of our infrastructure instead of leaving it up to a few individuals to do their job for them! And get that piece of misappropriated piece of machinery back where it is supposed to be.

This is the only natural arch that I know of on BI. Has anybody got a clue? Leave a comment if you know. Leave one even if you don't know! Not even sure anyone even stops in here anymore!

Does any one still read this thing?

Been quite a while since I've written anything. Garden is all done, Pigs have gone to piggy heaven, and half of the turkey's have all attended a Thanksgiving dinner. The last batch is waiting in the wings for the week before Xmas.

I keep waiting in vain for the people of this country to open their eyes to just what is going on and just how fast they are losing a lot of their rights. This administration continues to trample the Constitution on a daily basis.

I am very disheartened, and if the next election cycle goes the way of the last three or four, we can all put our heads between our knees and kiss our asses goodbye!  The people need to go to the polls and do away with every single person in both Houses of the Congress. All the old RINO'S need to be dispossessed as well as their counterparts on the other side of the aisle!

Oh by the way, just why is it that seven to eight percent of the people who are atheists, get to dictate to the other ninety three percent  about how we have to life our lives?  When are we finally going to stand up and tell them to just shut up, sit down, and be quiet? This PC crap is rapidly undermining the whole social structure of this country.  I'm not a religious person per se, more of the agnostic bent, but as I was growing up I was exposed to people who lived their lives according to the golden rules, and much of any morality that I do posses came to me through the interactions with these people. Friends, Neighbors, Family members all had a hand in shaping who I am today.

OBTW it really is OK to say "Merry Christmas"!!! So do it, a lot!! End of today's rant. TIFN

Update to the last post

Well the first of the thirteen eggs we set earlier this month has hatched out to a cute little turkey. There are five more of his/her brethren in the process of pecking themselves out of their Calcium Cottages. Hopefully the rest will finish in due time.

Made a new purchase last week and it got here just in time. The four females Narragansetts seem to have taken on the task of repopulating the Island all by themselves. Between them all we collected sixty (60) eggs from various nests and have started them in the  new incubator so that they will all hatch at approximately the same time. we will be up to our tushies in turkies as there are already 22 in the sliding cage. I accidentally  killed one of them when He got caught under the cross bar and I turned him into a turkey pancake. Won't make that same mistake twice! So with the 22 there, the 16 hatching on the kitchen table, and the 60 in the new incubator, that comes to 98 if I added it right.  But the good thing is that 12 of them are spoken for already.

The Cauliflower row is my first failure of this season. I guess I brought them outside a bit too early even though they were ensconced in hoop houses covered with Agribon. To stressful an as a result they all "bolted for the sky". I had just tied up the leaves over the heads to keep the blanched. NOT!  So I moved on down to my #2 raised bed and planted three more short rows and hopefully we will have some at the end of the summer to pickle and enjoy fresh.

All the tomatoes look like a mangrove jungle! I can't even walk between rows. They are covered in small tomatoes and tons of flowers. After the last hard rain I mixed up a batch of Enz-Rot, 2 tsps. to a gallon of water and sprayed them all till they dripped to try and get some calcium absorbed.

All the Golden Bantam corn, an heirloom variety, and another hybrid have all come up and are past the stage of being pulled by crows.That is if they survive the hail of #5 bird shot sure to engulf them! I also planted a bunch of northwestern Blue Hubbard squash. These are about 15 pound ones, NOT the 40 pound monsters we used to grow as kids.

Piggies are doing well and are now almost up to my size!  In another couple of months  they will be ready to be retired to the chest freezers in various basements. TIFN

OBTW, has anyone opened their eyes and seen just what it is our illustrious presidente has done and is doing to this country? Just wondering!!

What's happening down on the pseudo farm?

Here we are in the almost full bloom of summer and we are diligently trying to bring down the levels of frozen food in four different freezers. They still hold the remnants of two pigs who had been turned into various forms of sausage, breakfast, sweet and hot Italian, Cajun. Then there was also the home cured honey/maple syrup bacon that still needs to be savored. All the various cuts of meat that come from a piggy have all been slowly disappearing. We made in the vicinity  of 850-900 lbs of various types of sausage/keilbasa etc using a fifty/fifty mix of venison and pork fat and meat! It is absolutely delicious!

After we had dispatched all the piggies we turned our attention to the approximately 25 Narragansett turkeys that we had been raising all summer and fall. They mostly went into the freezer with all their bodily parts still intact. Three or four were split in half before freezing and the remainder were put in our new 100 pound smoker and processed for almost 24 hours. Now there is some fine eating. I think they lasted a grand total of a week or so!

So about the 10th of April we had our next batch of piggies show up for a summer of leisure in the Taj     Mahal of pig sty's. There, they get to lie about in the sun working on their tan, all the while dining on the finest that the Depot, BIG, OPOBS, and  my pocket book can provide. They came as young and svelte piggies of about 30 pounds and have begun their middle age spread. They are about 130/150 right now but will probably be about 280/300 by the time they expire.

The four female Narragansett's have so far contributed about 25 live birds out of almost 80 laid. Thirteen were hatched just four days ago and then that heavy all night rain came and they all died from hypothermia from the water running right  through their nest! Bummer! Mom has commenced laying another brood. We also have another batch of 16 incubating on the kitchen table from one of the others who lays the eggs but disdains setting on them for 28 days! So we called TPS,(Turkey Protective Services) and they let us foster them. Well at least till November/December.

So the total garden is all in and doing well. Nothing to do now but keep after the weeds and bugs and other pests. Did get six high bush blueberry bushes planted this year. Also planted twelve Georgia Jet sweet potatoes, of which only nine survived the transplant ordeal. These are good winter keepers and should last throughout most of the winter in a nice cool environment.

Got the usual assortment of sauce and eating tomatoes coming along really well. The Pontiac Red potatoes should be ready by 4 July potato salad. The Kennebec's were started two weeks after the others and will be the fall/winter keepers as they will stay snuggled in their dirt beds till the tops have died and gone to veggie heaven.

All kinds of other stuff going well like, bush beans,  Pinto's, Red Kidney's for storing, cukes, winter and summer squash, peas, okra  carrots, beets, two kinds, and various other green eatables.

Well, it will soon be time to start canning and dehydrating another years worth of yummies to get us through the troubling times a coming! TIFN

obama gets the shaft instead of us for a change!

Well it looks like after five or six years of constant lying, cheating and trying to steal peoples rights, the chickens are coming home to roost for the crookedest president in the history of this country. We've had some pretty well bent ones, but none have been as nefarious in their actions as this useless turd!

The only thing this man does well is to board big old jet planes and fly all over the country still in campaign mode. He spends all his time perpetrating his idiotic ideas to a group of people who don't have two brain cells to rub together. If they did possess those cells, they would be distancing themselves from this lowlife as fast as they could.

It looks like that although the head of CBS has a sibling who works in the Whitehouse for obummer, and who has been in wholesale cover-up mode for the thug-in-charge, he has finally come to his senses and is letting his minions begin to report on some of the most disastrous shenannigans of this idiot. Although I did hear today that he is trying to fire Sheryl Atkinsson for doing it to well I guess.

For the first time in five+ years we are seeing reporters actually wondering if the obamamessiah has come to the end of his run, and that it may just be time to abandon this sinking, stinking, ship of fools!

I am sitting here every day, turning on the TV early in the morning, only to hear of some other scandal in this administration. "Scandal"is too soft an adjective for the egregious actions of many of these people who barry o. has put in positions of authority. "Treasonous" fits the deeds much better. Firing squad would be the correct  end if the charges all prove to be correct.

Already the first head has rolled as the head of the IRS has been fired, as he should rightly have been. Hopefully they will remove his oh so willing subordinates as well. The whole place needs a hoeing out and all the entrenched bureaucrats need to be put out on their asses! As is the case with all the long time government workers!

Can hardly wait for the next treasonous act to be uncovered! TIFN

Response to Mr. Mellors ltr. to BI Times 1/11/13

The Editor,

Mr. Mellor 'Evidently" didn't read the short paragraph immediately above the one where the term 'warped outlook' was used. It contained a couple of computer links that he could have read. If he, or any other person, rational or irrational, thinks that a gun can leap up off the table and kill someone unassisted, then I'd say that person has a warped outlook. You must have heard this before, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people". Every single gun I have ever run across in my lifetime has been an inanimate object. They have just lain there until someone picked them up and manipulated their working parts!!

I, and most other “rational thinking” people would be all for a mental health background check to weed out all these 'mental cases' who have perpetrated virtually all of the mass murders. BUT, That would go against the liberal, elitist cognoscente's invasion of privacy that they “value” so highly, but are so incogitant in their daily infringement of same on other people. You know, we of the lower intelligence quotient.

Well, as usual the liberal mindset leaps to the fore and reformats what I said to fit their agenda. I said, “these two internet sites 'just may' be an inspiration for someone with an open mind and a rational thought process —— blah blah". I think you are taking the commentary from the TV talking heads who are known for their totally unbiased outlook and getting them confused with my own personal views.

You have to read the whole thing, and respond in the same context. A good journalist doesn't cherry pick comments and or utterances, and then re-context them to suit his own purposes.

I've read the sentence a dozen times and can find no rational interpretation of those words that only, "rational people think as I do".

If you are of the mindset that this country is doing just fine under the present administration of liars, cheats, tax evaders, thieves and outright crooks, then you are right about the universal suffrage, only it didn't work this time around and the 51% are finally beginning to figure that out albeit too late! Witness all those non taxes that are now hitting us.

I cannot for the life of me understand why you folks of the left keep trying to rush headlong into the very selfsame predicament and servitude that the Germans, Russian, Italians of WWII placed themselves in as well as the Chinese,and many of the far eastern nations of today and the last sixty years find themselves. Under the boot of tyrants and all because they willingly let themselves be disarmed and so have no means of fighting back. About the only reason I can come up with, is that you plan on being the ones holding the whips.

Oh by the way, I find it kind of hysterically incongruous that it is totally okay with you, of the

deer eradication folks, that we should be able to have all the guns we need or want to shoot

the absolutely defenseless deer, but a human being on Block Island and in the rest of the

USA should be prevented from owning guns of any kind, in order to protect them selves from

a predatory government, should one arise, or any member of the total inventory of the

common, vulturine, rapacious, two legged kind of homo-sapien-crookus! The really sad part of

the whole commentary is that every crook, 'bad guy' and politician will have all the guns they

Who is it, that is in with the Soros United Nations Agenda 21 World Domination Fund?

Why folks  that would be Google, Coke, Bank of America, Exxon, Wally World as well as these Ex-notables. Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Mussolini, and every other tin pot dictator that believed that disarming the populace was the only way to control them!

And it is true and it worked for a while in most cases. FOR A WHILE!  Now all these "elites" in their own minds anyway, have decided that we should  be the next country to succumb to their whims and be totally disarmed and at their mercy. After all they are the 'preferred people'! Again in their own estimation.

Actually each and every one of them certifiably insane. Why do I say that? Because one of the definitions  of insane is; "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result"! And they are so absolutely sure of their premise, they cannot stop themselves from engaging in it!!

Just read somewhere that the Bank of Amerika told a gun seller that they didn't like him selling gun parts on the Internet so they were going to hold up processing the companies deposits! I am glad to report that the company immediately withdrew every dime from them and put it in a locally run and operated bank. That is just what to do folks, bring your money back to the local economy.

I have bought my last Coke, didn't like it anyway, been in Walmart for the last time, buy only gasoline from Valero, and just switched my browser from google to Yahoo.  Oh yeah, and all you folks who are NOT in love with progressivism, Cloward -Piven and Keynesian economics, buy your car/truck insurance from the little green gecko guy and not the painted face geisha from PROGRESSIVE!  The owner derives great glee from telling folks that he just loves the fact that all those conservatives keeps giving him money so that he can help fund all the liberal agendas!

I think I am going to go back to drinking again and live in a funky haze for whatever time I have left TIFN   Need to go take a few deep breaths!

To the Editor,

I would like to respond to the editorial in the previous week's B I Times.

A little preface first. A few years ago, I'm not exactly sure of the dates, various types of politicians decided in their infinite wisdom, to cast open the doors of most of the mental health institutions in this country, and to turn loose on the public at large a huge population of mentally deficient folks. Most of them probably only suffered from relatively minor ailments that didn't make them a threat to themselves or their neighbors. But within their ranks were folks with a festering illness that would someday boil to the surface and cause them to erupt into violence of some sort.

There are also hundreds of thousands of very young people with hurts real and imagined, that really need help in managing their own mental health.

If our elected leaders had the intelligence God gave a gnat, they might have spent a few of those billions of dollars on finding and treating those folks instead of using it to fund nonsensical studies of the mating habits of crickets, newts, or amoeba of some sort. Or as the present administration does, and others, giving billions to countries that are our avowed enemies.

The very first thing one must do when they undertake to put a proposal before the populace, is that they must know, and be able to define the object or idea of which they speak. Until the era of “The Clinton” there was no such term as an Assault Rifle. That was a name coined by them to scare the poor folks of this country into banning those evil guns. No guns to retaliate, the government can do as it damned well pleases.Witness what is going on today.

What is mistakenly called an “assault rifle” is one which is a select fire, magazine fed, possibly sound suppressed, intermediate sized cartridge,( not all that powerful, as is a deer rifle), and may or may not have lights and scope mounted on the rifle. Mostly used by the military and the crooks and criminals.

These are fully automatic weapons. The AR-15 mentioned in the article is a Semi-Automatic. One pull of the trigger delivers one round down range. The action cycles inside the rifle and puts another round into the chamber of the rifle. It is a one shot at a time device, it just happens to have eight or nine more rounds in a convenient location. There has NOT been a fully automatic weapon sold legally in the US since the National Firearms Act was passed in 1934! The most common caliber that you will find is a .223 Remington or a 5.56 NATO. These are a tiny bit bigger than a .22 you may have shot as a kid. They are NOT monster guns. Although you can buy them chambered for any number of calibers. These particular rifles were regulated before they were even invented!

Any bolt action rifle or shotgun, revolver, or other handgun is also a semi-auto firearm. The only difference is that it takes a live body instead of a spring to make it work!

Why does every one of the “Regulate guns” guys feel the screaming need to ban “extended capacity” mags? A large one holds thirty rounds. A guy with one of those can empty it in about 30 seconds. Another person with three ten round mags can put those thirty rounds down range in about 40-45 seconds or less! Where is the big advantage of banning the thirty or forty round mags.? Most people who own them have no intentions of ever using them against another human being unless the rule of law breaks down. Why are these flying off the shelves? Because millions of people are worried about exactly that coming to pass in the near future, and they want to be able to defend themselves and their families, not go on a killing rampage in a primary school!! If all of us with these weapons were as crazy as the left leaners believe, there would be none of you left to complain! You think?

Detachable mags, flash hiders, barrel shrouds, collapsible stocks, all these items do is hold your spare ammunition, keep the flash of the fired round from blinding you, keep you from burning your hands, and making the rifle usable by folks of the same family with different arm lengths. They are NOT evil accoutrements!

So where do all these illegal weapons come from? Certainly not from any licensed gun shop in the USA. Think about where and how they get into the country. Why, wonder of wonders, they follow the same trails and routes that the illicit drugs do.

Now we are inundated by the call of all the politicians, for more gun laws to stop these horrific mass murders. “More gun laws eh”, well there are well over 20,000 laws on the books now. You can pass a million more gun laws outlawing this gun, or that rifle but not one single criminal will abide by them anymore than they have the last 20 thousand!

About those “Gun Free Zones” and “No Guns Allowed” signs you see all over the place. All those signs do is to inform the criminal that here is a hunting preserve stocked with hundreds of innocent victims with no means of protecting themselves! Damn, let's get in there. Those signs in the store fronts are advertisements that draw nutcase killers or just regular old crooks. “Well they think to themselves, nobody here to shoot back at me so I'm going in”! It is just like the old bees and honey adage.

Do you honestly think that those signs are going to stop a person determined to commit mayhem from entering? Really? Get REAL, they won't even slow down as they go through the doors guns blazing away. These are people with no empathy for anyone, age, gender, or race. Those signs are in reality, nothing more than hunting license's to kill people within!

I know in advance that none of this will change the warped outlook of most gun banners, but just may be an inspiration for someone with an open mind, and a rational thought process, to take from them another idea of just what the role of firearms is and what was intended by those smart guys from the 1700's. They were a whole lot more prescient than we folks of the here and now! Thanks!

Are we finally getting a little smarter?

It appears as though obamarroid hasn't managed to bullshit us all into brainless oblivion. The folks in Michigan have managed to break the strangle hold the unions have had on them for decades.

The U.S. house of Reps. have finally gotten a LITTLE backbone and let  Obamarroid know that no way in hell is Susan Rice the third Liar in Chief after Shrillary, and HIMSELF  will ever in this lifetime become Sec. of State!

And it looks as though Speaker Beohner, Boner, Bwhiner, is about ready to grown some cajones and face down that lying piece of crap we, or rather his supporters call president.

I was really surprised at the results of the election, and the margins that he won by. When Virtually ALL the pundits with 1/2 a brain had jumped into the Romney camp I, (red faced the next day) agreed that it was over for the Obummer. But it is amazing what a little, make that a lot of vote rigging will do for your candidate. I'll stop right there with that line of talk. Shan't be thought of as a right wing, gun toting, bible clinging lout from up here in liberal city central! Obummer forbid!

I hope all of you have been at least stocking up on a few things to eat when the horse, ah --, make that "Jackass" finally shoves the wagon over the cliff. Better have your printing presses ready when inflation begins to take hold.

Virtually every single thing this ass has put his hand too has led us to the very edge of disaster. His 932 +"Executive Orders" have put almost complete control over every aspect of our lives in his hands or those of his henchmen in the DHS and the Brown Shirted Young Volunteers, or some such name, who will be there to, "help us through the disasters" that may engulf us through natural occurences or those of the manmade kind.

We are in some deep poo, and the defecator in chief just keeps on dumping.

After 60 some years of working, and paying taxes of all sorts, and since beginning to collect some of those benefits that I earned and paid into, I just got my notice of COLA increase from Soc.Sec. Got $3.48 more.! Great! only trouble is, that I also got more taxes taken out of it and a few more taxes added on so the net result is----  minus $117.16 from last years.  Have been paying too RIBC/B S  and Medicare  Part B and prescription  coverage on average, $53,000. a year for health care!! And now with the inception of obummercare, that number WILL go up by 20% in January. And that is one third of all I make wife included!   And,, it is MANDATED  that you WILL buy this insurance! That is only if you are a legal citizen! If you are an illegal alien well shit folks IT'S ALL FREE FOR THEM!    It IS coming too you to folks.

So THE BEST ADVICE I could give to anyone who has the space, is to start planting your  "Defeat Garden" as soon as the frost is out of the ground, and keep on trucking till it is as frozen as your ass next fall.

I'm Ba a c k!

Well I managed to survive the full on open heart surgery which consisted of a double bypass and an aortic valve replacement. Didn't I say all that in the previous post? oh well, old age do creepth up on me.

I'd like to thank all the folks who sent cards to me in the hospital and the rehab center as well as emails on my iPad and the dozens of phone calls to the old homestead on the Island wishing me well through my wife of 50 years. She wrote them all down!

She and Russell and Kirk have been tending to all the animals in my absence. I thought as soon as I got back here I would be able to take the jobs back, but have since found out that I have about as much tensile strength as a well cooked piece of spaghetti! Well past the al dente stage!

So I guess I'm relegated to the post of "watching it all happen while sitting on my ass" for another 5-6 weeks.

For those interested, all the baby chicks we hatched on the dining room table have since moved over to the chicken coop with their parents and I assume they will soon begin to lay eggs of their own. That is with the exception of their four brothers who have gone to chicken heaven,(my freezer).

The 16 raised from egg Narragansett turkeys, have joined their 10 brethren from the Murray McMurray hatchery in the turkey run and are gorging themselves on the delicious food supplied to them for free. They are growing well and should be well rounded just before Thanksgiving arrives. I hope we  have something to be thankful for, as in obama sent back to Kenya or Indonesia!!

DA Piggies. After the slow start of the spring and the scours they all had two or three times they are now putting on weight pretty fast. Could it be a weekly dose of bagels from an un-named source, and trash can after can  of veggies from two or three sources.  All contributing to their girth increases. Looks like there will be a nice dose of honey or maple cured bacon to sustain us through the winter.

The Days dwindle  down--- to a precious few----

Well this has been in the works for a while now, and the day arrives Monday when it is time to pay the piper for all those transgressions against my internal fuel pump. You know, eating all that stuff that tasted so damn good going down even though you knew, deep down, that it was doing you no good! Other than satisfying a selfish desire to experience the fleeting pleasure derived from said indulgence!

I was delivered into this present life with a defect in one of the heart valves. The aortic one and over the long life past, it has decided it is pooped out with all the abuse inflicted, and wants some relief from the daily trials and tribulations of opening and closing a minimum of 60 times a minute or thereabouts.

So I have made a deal with a purveyor of replacement parts for matters of the heart. He has agreed to  remove the deficient valve and replace it with one he guaranteed would work for 15/20 years! He said if it quit or went bad to bring it back and he'd replace it with a new one.

So this Monday morning at  0600 he will be rooting around inside my chest doing what he does best, i.e. giving old farts a chance to hang around with the Kids and Grand kids a little longer. While he is in there he said he might as well replace a couple of those 3/4 plugged up pipes too. No extra charge for them, so of course I leapt, errr, crept over to grasp this extra-ordinary chance of  a twofer, or a threefer, or however many damaged pipes there are in there.

He did mention that there were some drawbacks to the valve he would be using! Well that set the old pump to fluttering and sputtering!

He then mentioned that the replacement part would have to come from a different make and model of  mammal than the one original one. I think they call them "after market parts" instead of OEM's? Or is it OME's?

I asked him if he was referring to some sort of mechanical device? He said no because those types were really annoying to the recipient. They clicked at every beat and you could feel/hear it and you were always waiting in itchy anticipation for the time to arrive when it quit clicking!!

What is the alternative I inquired in my most steady, deliberative, and calm voice? Actually it sounded more like a cat with its tail under the rocker of a chair.  He then told me it would be one donated by a young and virile animal of the bovine persuasion! I was most happy to hear him NOT say it was from a PIG! He did tell me that there was always a problem with the bovine valves though. He said that every once in a while you will become overwhelmed  with the need to let out a very loud and raucous MOOOO and to don't try to hold it back. Just let it roll!

So sometime about 4 to 6 hours after this all goes down, I shall either be here amongst the living, or gone off into the light, looking for the next home for my ethereal soul!  Hopefully, I will be back here to torture you all with my drivel and chase  some chickens, turkeys, pigs and Grandchildren around the old homestead for a few more years.

On a more serious note, I would like to thank all the folks who know of this upcoming event for all the good wishes, thoughts, and prayers for a good result and a speedy recovery, that have been conveyed to me over the last month!  I thank you, and love you to high degree, one and all!!  TIFN!

Dirty Politics rears its ugly head on BI--- AGAIN!

Well, some of the folks who live here on this little piece of glacial terminal moraine, have decided to move us ever closer to the quagmire that invades and is invested in the state politicians who infest this State. The Medical Center here on BI is "governed" by a board of approximately 12 people who come from all walks of life. They are all volunteers who were duly elected by the taxpayers of this burg. Most all of them over the years have given selflessly to make a go of the venture and it has worked well most of the time. Sometime earlier this year the makeup of the board changed and with the installation of some of the newer folks, the behind the scenes shinagians began to unfold. There was Monty Stover having been there for 16 years originally just taking care of the money end of the Center. Making sure it had the funds to continue operation through every sort of fundraising and grant writing. At some point the administrative director found reason to depart the Island and Mr. Stover with the concurrence of the then BOARD of directors, stepped in to fill the gap. This man worked 12 hours a day on average, 6 and sometimes 7 days a week in order that the Center would continue to thrive. He didn't get many thanks, and probably even fewer pats on the back for a job truly well done. Enter the pretenders! After a while, and with a lot of backdoor "gatherings" a few of them unilateraly decided to get rid of Mr. Stover so that they could have his job! How blatantly uncouth,nefarious,underhanded,slyly,and maliciously they were in designing the hatchet job they then delivered to the body of M. Stover. None, to not much warning was given him before they so unceremoniously fired him one morning! No reason given apparently except that two of the board members wanted his two jobs!! Dr. Peter Baute wanted the overall Admin job. while Pete Tweedy grabbed the finance position for himself. What a God damned travesty that they would ruin someones life, especially someone who had given their all to the center, for the sole purpose of gaining a little"power" and lining their pockets at this guys expense. This little charade is an exact parallel of how the present Administration in D.C. conducts the day to day,ostensibly, the peoples business, while undermining the Constitution and stuffing their pockets with taxpayers money. Throw ALL the bastards, locally and Nationally OUT/1 TIFN.

What's up with the Young Turk's?

Back to those turkeys. It turned out that apparently Mr. Thomas had a preference for only one of the ladies.. The one who laid 28-32 eggs did not have a single viable hatch. Hell I don't know, maybe she was gay and didn't like the attentions of that guy.

On the other hand, the remaining hen was well serviced because after laying about 20 eggs, today we were greeted with 18 baby poults of which 17 survived the birth ordeal. After leaving them with mother for just one day, we removed them too the brooder cage we built specifically for doing this to chickens and turkeys.

Didn't want to leave them to the vagaries of nature as there are many hawks and Herring Gulls that are adept at grabbing small hatchlings right out from under moms nose. She is not to happy with the situation as she can hear them cheeping away but cannot see them or get to them. Oh well, such is life on the farm when you are in the process of providing some protein for the extended family.

I am typing this in the early evening and had wanted to take a couple of pictures to include in these two posts. A few of  them will be of the Whizbang Feather Plucker the boys and I built. Well, I started it and about half way into the process was oh so gently elbowed the hell out of the way!! Anyway, it turned out very well and will remove the feathers from a properly scalded chicken/turkey in about 15 seconds.

When I mentioned I had this machine to a couple of my cohorts in chicken raising, they wondered if I might be interesting in trying it out on a few of their birds that were ready for the freezer. I said yes and so we arranged to do them on a Sunday morning. After Church of course!

On the appointed day they each arrived with their respective victims and we proceeded to do "the deed". There were 17 of them, mostly roosters and with the aforementioned devices, we were able to do them all in about an hour and a half. That was from setup till cleanup was finished! What would usually have been at least a six or seven hour job was thereby reduced to a time frame we were all impressed with! The black table is two plastic pallets held together with 2, 2x4's screwed to them on the inside. The sink is a small cast iron one salvaged from a friends "sink heap"! She has a few! And the water fed hose nozzle is hooked to a hose under the table. The 2" PVC pipe is just there to keep the water and small pieces of viscera out from under foot.

I originally built this for my own use as we will now be getting back into raising meat bids solely for the freezer. But after looking at how well it did the job, we decided that we would lend it out to any and all folks here on BI that wished to make use of it for a nominal fee. NOT cash, but maybe a chicken or two depending on length/amount of use. Some sort of barter, as I am sure we will all be delving into that manner of payment in the not to far distant future.

So now I am going to "save" this till tomorrow morning when I'll try the picture imbed trick! HA HA!

Well that didn't work worth a shit so I guess I'll just try and post the pic's in another separate post and write underneath them like I see all the smart people out there do. Well that lets me out! TIFN

Screw the Politicians!

The title says it all for me. I am tired of hearing all the outrageous lies, spread with straight faces and the sincere desire that all conservatives "would just die"! Their words delivered by one of their hollywood elitists. In order to keep my sanity what little is left, I'm going to, for the most part,refrain from indulging in more of the same ranting as has gone on before. For the conservative folks I'm just preaching to the choir, and to all the libtards it is a useless endeavor as they have ALL drunk deeply from the well of stupidness and assimilated its poison deep into their physche and their fat globules!! Although on occasion I may loose control of myself and say something like, F*** OBAMA!

 So, back to the post about piggies, turkeys, etc. The piggies have been through some trying times and two of them have succumbed to some kind of stomach virus that they kept passing around between themselves. It appears to have run its course as of this date and two of the remaining 4 have begun to put on weight. They are still about 4 weeks behind in their growth. The other two are even further than that behind, but I do believe that by late Nov. they should be ready to pass into piggie heaven..

 As to those prolific turkeys, well things there have been mighty slow. Of the nine eggs we incubated, only one was hatched. Right after he was de-egged, we started 31 Rhode Island Red/Plymouth Rock eggs not knowing which rooster was the most desirous of propagating his species, or should I just say "horny", we had no idea what we would get. Turns out 23 days later we had 5 RR Reds and 19 PR's. Still no idea even now, as to the gender of any of them. Any that commence to laying eggs and will be, by default, considered Pullets. The others will be also considered by default, Supper, or Dinner, or Fingers, whatever the case may be.

 After a few weeks in a brooder with the 3 week older poult,(turkey), until they were completely feathered out, they were moved to the outside run where for some reason their genes from a few million years ago came surging to the fore and in the best imitation of their Velociraptor ancestors, they turned on their nest mate, young Mr. turkey and pecked him to death by bleeding him out through removal of his appendage that grows from just above his bill. Not sure what it is called. This discourse to be continued in the next post which shall appear post haste I Hope! TIFN

The Education System on BI

At one time about 37 years ago, after having spent 20 years in the USN and having been exposed to very many lifestyles in my travels around this country as well as others, I became very concerned with just what was going on with the school systems here in the US. But more specifically what was happening, or not, right here in River City!

Way back then even obtuse me began to see a different direction that was slowly being imposed on the criteria of material being taught to our kids. I don't believe that I was all that oriented, or really informed of  either a right or left leaning bent. I just thought I knew what was right and wrong.

Not liking what I was seeing, I ran for School Committee and was elected and then given the job of Chairperson, ( See, this was another indication of where things were going) by my peers.

For the next 12 years or so it was an on going battle trying to balance the need for money to run the school system, with the ever increasing demands from the evermore intrusive State Board of education.

With their demand that we in corporate into our curriculum all sorts of unfunded mandates that they unilaterally saddled us with.  The first was Public Law (94-142) which was called the Special Education Law I do believe.

Since then the degradation of the Education of all RI kids has been on the skids. Everything has become oriented toward the sole purpose of making the kids "feel good" about themselves, "Increasing their self esteem", Making them aware of the feelings and worth of the children of the world, all sorts of feel good information that most people used to pick up on their own.

All this at the expense of the classes and lessons that really prepare our kids  for the real world out there.  You know like being able to read,write, and spell American English, string two or three co-herent thoughts together on a piece of paper, balance a checkbook, make change, Science, History, (American, World, Ancient) That has NOT been revised by the very left leaning establishment, basic Math, all the things that ought to be taught to our younger generations.

SO, this brings me to where we are today. The elections for  School Committee members here on BI are Non-partisan, so you cannot tell just where a candidate is sort of coming from by her/his political leanings or party affiliations.

So I think that if we want to get our local, "Edifice of Erudition" back on the straight and narrow path and eliminate all the feel good bullshit, we should publicly ask of our candidates just what their thoughts are of the direction in they would steer us, and for what reasons.

Myself I am all for the old time stuff of "readin', writin', and 'rithmitic"! TIFN    

Well here I sit after watching all the news about the big win for the Governor of Wisconsin. Seems as though he won by a total of 53%. That kind of tells me that despite all the millions of dollars of Union members money spent to oust him,that there are a lot more rational people in the state than there are tose of the Progressive,Liberal, Socialist, Communist bent!

 Now, wouldn't it be sweet if the Governor of this crooked little state was to follow in the foot steps of a REAL Governor? After all, didn't he run as an Independent so he wouldn't be beholden to all the various unions, pac's and other graft ridden politicians in this state?

 Then he starts a proceeding to stop the Feds from taking a local murderer form the arms of our oh so forgiving state because he would then be subject to the death penalty.

 He killed someone, an eye for an eye, if convicted, feed him his big dose of dope, rope, lead, or electrons, what ever they use in the place of his ultimate confinement.

Duh, I wrote this one a few days ago but didn't get chance to post it till now.  Was busy getting a camera threaded up an artery for a look-see into my inner-most workings. TIFN

The Dead Shall rise to vote again!

So I wonder if all the upright and totally honest election officials in this wonderfully un-corrupt state are going to get off their asses and get all the dead people off of our voting lists! You think it will happen?

How about all the illegal folks who populate our little haven on the water? Will they all be removed from the voting rolls? And the local environs? Doubtful.

Oh yeah, while these people are in the process of cleaning up our  lists of miscreants who try to vote, I wonder if they are also going to cut them off from their food stamps most probably illegally obtained and used.

When is the 99 weeks of unemployment  payments going to end? How did it ever get from 26 to 99?
When are Jack Reed and Shel Whitehouse going to stop feeding into only their voter base ,and start taking care of business for ALL the people of this state and not just the ones who keep voting for them and their handouts?

These two and those losers in the House need to be voted out of office and the next ones put in their places, monitored on a weekly basis to keep them on the track they said they would follow if we elected them!

If new people run for office, professing to do so only for egalitarian, and unselfish reasons, How do we vet them? And then assure ourselves that they are not straying from the straight and narrow?

It is a paradox and I have no idea how to solve it that doesn't include some kind of mayhem ?

But I will tell you one thing, I am heartily sick and tired of forking over all the tax money I have to pay in order for some lazy assed SOB to sit on his ass eating potato chips and watching his best bud "ohemmoroid" send this country down the drain while all his adoring public applauds him with one hand in my pocket.

Am I a bitter disillusioned old man? You bet your ass I am! TIFN
