2nd update of Dock Works

The above pictures show the extent of the work after 8 days of being on the job. They have about 20 feet of trench opened and have started installing the new bulkhead sheathing. They have been trying to get the first piece in the ground but apparently there is some either springy old wood or a big assed rock down there. An update to later this same morning, They must have figured out how to get past the obstruction, because I watched them finally pound the first sheet right down to where they needed it to go. Be back Next week! And no more taking pictures till it gets really light out!

Sooo, a question, if they pounded it down, did they crack it/break it and now it will leak like a sieve??? Which would kinda defeat the whole purpose of a bulkhead???

It would be nice to see what's going on there, LOL Ev, like what the sheet piling looks like and if it is jetted in, excavated, drop-hammered down, or a combination.

The main deal is the tie-back system which keeps the bulkhead from falling over into the water. All bulkheads leak a little, but we don't want them falling over!

Well, it is supposed to be drop hammered in, but because of all the debris buried there it will not go in straight. So they pulled out the only one in 7-8 days work and are going to set up on the other end and start there. If it keepup like this the 1 April done date will be looking more like Sept. or Oct sometime. Daylight pictures from now on.

Wouldn't it make more sense to put the new bulkhead in front of the old bulkhead? No old construction debris to deal hit in the ground and you don't have to demolish the and dispose of the old bulkhead. Seems pretty obvious. That's what Interstate and Ballards did.
