Rememberance of a Cuban Immigrant

Well folks, I have been very remiss in putting up a post now and then, but I am so distressed by what our Destroyer in Chief is doing to this country on a daily basis. So now of course two different items have come to me from other readers across the US.

They have urged me to put them up here and to forward them to as many others as I can who are as upset as I am about the state of our Union. I hope if you are reading this, you are one of them.

As to previous comments people had made here and they never showed up in the appropriate places, I apparently checked the box that said all comments had to be moderated. Not so, I am just an idiot when it comes to a lot of this blogging stuff. The box will get unchecked as soon as I can find it again.

So here is the first post:

I remember seeing pictures of Castro during his trip to NY City before he took over - all that could be talked about were the chickens in the hallway of the Waldorf Astoria -

*Here's something to think about.*

I remember asking dad about Castro when I was about 9 years old. I asked,
"Is Castro a good guy or bad?"

Dad said...he couldn't tell!! This was about 1955. We were living in
Louisiana ...at the time. Dad was in the Army there.

Cuba was fairly close and in the news a lot. The Cubans were asking the same
question!

Ike was president.

This past July, we had the pleasure of sharing a summer barbecue with a
refugee from Cuba . Our dinner conversation was starkly different than most.

This refugee came to the United States as a young boy in the early 1960's.
His family was more fortunate than most, as they were able to bring a
suitcase...and $100 when they fled Castro's newly formed revolutionary
paradise.

Our dinner consisted of all-American fare: hamburgers, potato salad,
watermelon and fresh ears of sweet corn. This is a menu shared with family
and friends nationwide...while celebrating the birth of our beloved America
...on the Fourth of July.

We began with a simple discussion about our country, and the direction it
has taken since Barack Obama came to power. We shared the usual complaints
about the sour economy and liberal social engineering emanating from the
rulers in Washington.

But then he said it. The sentence came naturally. I assume it was unplanned.
But it carried the weight of a freight train. "You know when Castro took
power, none of us knew he was a Communist".

We sat stunned. He continued, "Yes, we all thought he was a patriot, a
nationalist. Before the revolution he didn't sound like a radical."

The comparison at this point was easy, and I interjected, "You mean just
like Barack Obama?"

He responded; "Yes, just like Barack Obama."

He continued, "We were all shocked as the government just continued to grab
more power. First they said the revolution is over, so please turn in your
guns. We all complied."

I remember my uncle saying after it started; "Castro will only nationalize
some of the big industries. He will never come and take our family hardware
store!!" But that is exactly what happened. Castro started with the sugar
mills and the large industries, but they eventually came and knocked on the
door of our family hardware store. My family had run this store for
generations. They said we now own the hardware store, you work for us. And
that nice, large four-bedroom home you own...it is now our property also,
and...you can move yourself and five children into two rooms of the house,
because others are moving in with you."

The lesson learned from this discussion, is a lesson most Americans refuse
to hear. Political leaders can lie about their agenda and once in
office...they can take totally unexpected turns.

If you had asked us three years ago if we thought General Motors would be
nationalized, we would have never believed it.. We could never contemplate a
country where the rule of law, the most fundamental building block of a
justice society...would be evaporating, just like it did in Castro's Cuba in
the early 1960's.

But the news of injustice keeps increasing. Black Panthers are not charged
with wrong doing by the U.S. Department of Justice...because their crimes
are against whites. The bondholders of GM are stripped of their
assets...without due process by the government! Governmental leaders are
bribed in full daylight...only to have all investigation of the crimes
stifled...by the Attorney General.

The U.S. borders are over run with crime and illegal activity, and the
leaders in D.C. act as if it is important to protect the
lawbreakers....while the innocent are killed and over run. When local
communities attempt to enforce the law, they are ridiculed...and threatened
as racists and bigots. They are sued by the very administration...entrusted
with enforcing the law.

Without the rule of law, the U.S. Constitution is a sham!! Without the rule
of law, our beloved America is swiftly becoming a country where only the
well connected and politically powerful will be safe. As Michelle Malkin has
so eloquently explained in her recent book...a culture of corruption has
replaced honest government.

The only way this problem will be fixed, is by massive citizen action. All
honest citizens that want to be treated equally, must come together...and
demand that the favoritism, the bribes, the uneven enforcement of law...end
now!! And yes, it can happen here.

PLEASE SEND THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!! And...may God save the United States
of America !

Those EVIL Bush tax cuts

I came across this info at a site called Human Events and thought everyone should have a look at it. I printed it out and carry a copy in my shirt pocket.

The next time some idiot liberal goes off on me about Bush's tax cuts, I'm going to hand them this, let them read it and then ask them to refute the numbers. I'll bet they either run away as usual or punch me in the nose. So here it is.

Seeing that the Democrats are reviving their favorite campaign talking point, let’s review the facts about “tax cuts for the rich.”

First off, what President Bush enacted into law cut taxes across the board on everyone, not just the upper echelon. The 15 percent rate dropped to 10 percent, 27 percent to 25 percent, 30 percent to 28 percent, 35 percent to 33 percent, and 39.6 percent to 35 percent. Now go ahead and ask a lib which income bracket received the highest cut. Oh, snap: That would be the lowest income threshold, which nosedived five percentage points.

The whole “tax cuts for the rich” is pure bunk, a lie that liberals shamelessly popularize. Not that this should surprise us one bit. Here we have a Democrat Party in America that couldn’t agree on a puny $1.2 trillion in spending reductions over a 10-year-period. That means that Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi’s minions refused to slice off what amounts to $120 billion dollars a year of a federal budget nearly topping $4 trillion. Instead, they insisted that taxes be jacked up to pay for their statist programs.

Next up, we have the line that tax cuts blew the lid off of our deficit. That’s funny, because during the last year a Republican budget controlled Congress (fiscal year 2007), the deficit stood at a minuscule $161 billion dollars. $161 billion! {That’s at least five years into the tenure of those evil tax cuts.} Moreover, as HUMAN EVENTS has previously reported, federal tax receipts actually went up while the tax cuts were accelerating. In other words, the United States Treasury received more money not less because of the Bush tax cuts that we’re told ruined America’s economy.

See for yourself:

$1.88 trillion in 2004

$ 2.15 trillion in 2005

$ 2.4 trillion in 2006

$ 2.6 trillion in 2007

The last figure was actually the highest dollar amount brought into the Treasury Department… ever. That’s right, folks. While Democrats wail and whine about tax cuts as the main culprit for this country’s deficit woes, it turns out that we were bringing in bagfuls of money at historic proportions during that same time.

Idiots.

Then there are the politically-savvy, but totally fallacious, calls for "shared sacrifice." Naturally the Democrats don’t use that phrase to describe the nearly 50 percent of Americans who don’t pay any federal income taxes, but instead those who already pay the bulk of all federal, state, and local taxes. That aside, it’s the spending side of the lever that is completely out-of-whack, and has been so for a while. We’re now in our third straight year in a row with deficits exploding past $1 trillion dollars.

So when a lib is babbling to you about “shared sacrifice,” you can remind him that his great leader Messiah Obama shattered two spending records: Giving America her first-ever $1 trillion dollar deficit, and number two, extending that history-making deficit three consecutive years.

Heck, this guy has managed to increase the national debt by more than the first 41 presidents combined (George Washington to George Bush), and he’s managed to accomplish this feat in a mere 32 months.

You go, Barack!

And there you have it, the cutting evidence you need at your finger tips to eviscerate those unending lefty desires to slam us against the locker room and raid our wallets some more. Time to hit these Dems back with what they can’t get around -- a little something, something called: Facts.

Hauling Trash

Is anyone following what is going on with the Trash Hauling saga? Near as I can tell it has been re-bid two or three times since some folks didn't like the outcome the first two or three times.

Now I hear it has been awarded again after some of the rules were changed between bid requests!

Is that legal? Can you do that just because you didn't like the first three outcomes? Smacks of cronyism, or at least some other kind of "ism" that is not so savory to the olfactory senses.

And so I understand today that the other protagonist in the affair has filed , or is in the process of instituting another lawsuit, naming almost every one involved with the disaster.

For a change, I'm going to keep my big trap shut on this one as I have friends in both camps!

Although I will say that I just can't believe that much deep, nor far ranging thought went into the consequences of the actions taken was going to be! TIFN

Global Warming arrives on the East Coast

You know, all that oppressive heat stuff algore said we are heaping upon ourselves?

Damn, it LOOKS like snow and if feels COLD! How can that be!

Well I guess a lot of folks up and down the east coast have white grass in their front yards, but we just got wet green and brown stuff in ours!

I just heard via the grapevine that the "poor" folks of Darien Ct. are going to be without power for a few days in some parts of town. Maybe some of their younger folks with the left leaning bent will be out there cleaning up the downed branches and unplugging storm drains.

Oh foolish me, I forgot, they are all down on Wall St. doing their "community service" to the "poor"?? folks down there. Wonder just how many of them hauled ass for Mommy's house when it started coming down really good? TIFN

End of the garden

This was a very good year for our garden. I had a bumper crop of all kinds of winter squash, so much so that I was peddling them on the side of the road. Made enough to buy about 30 pkgs. of seeds for next year.

Tomato's were coming out our ears and we froze about 40-50 quarts of tomato sauce and canned about the same. Didn't get one ear of corn though. The ears never formed. Green peppers were in abundance after the end of Sept.! We made four batches of hot pepper jelly. Warm, hot, hotter, and burn the end off your tongue! It goes well with a little cream cheese on a Ritz or a Wheat Thin.

Planted sweet potato's I got from Johnny's Seeds and there are some that are big as footballs!

Never have been ale to grow any bigger than golf balls before. Probably had something to do with the ton or 2 of seaweed we put on the whole plot.

Planted three rows of Kennebec potato's and got at least 2 bushels per row. Also put in some Red Pontiac for early eating. Couldn't measure them as they kept disappearing out of the rows when ever anyone needed some.

Put up about 25 pints of pickled beets which turned out fantastic! Just used the recipe out of the Balls canning book.

Ordered and got 35, day old RI Red chicks, the 27 of June and they are 18 weeks old, so should be commencing to put out some eggs real soon. Time to "retire to the freezer" the old soup chickens. They are down too between 3 and 6 a day. NOT cost effective to keep feeding them.

Bought 3, 12 to 15 pound pigs last spring and as of this date they are all very close to 300 lbs.! Lots of bacon, sausage, chops and roasts to fill out the freezers.

All in all, with what fruit we canned and all the rest, if the SHTF any time soon I think my extended family will make it at least till the spring. When we butcher the pigs, real soon, all the "spare meat and fat" goes into the freezer till deer season comes along and then we can make some pork/venison sausage! UUMM that stuff is good.

A Crook Now in the Open!

Well I have been wondering for a couple of years now when this local crook was going to get caught by someone not of the Island culture of forgive and forget, and Can't we all just get along ilk.

He has been ripping off local people for years and has been given a pass every time! Well not EVERY time. When he tried it on us we had him 'Put Upon' by the local and State police till we got our money out of him but he went right on bilking virtually every single person he came into contact with out of a good chunk of money. Starting with a lady we all know and who owns a few properties on the block. One of them is colored blue and named after a small local boat and lives on Dodge street but who shall remain nameless.

He has ripped off many people through con-man schemes, Used their credit cards that he got them to put his name on and then run up huge debts that the poor owner of the card never had any hope of paying off! This guy is an out and out first class scumbag who has been on the move from town to town for years, only one jump ahead of the law! I cannot for the life of me imagine how the hell he has escaped the clutches of law enforcement for so long!

Well that long arm has finally reached out and snared the no good son of a bitch! I don't think I'll be letting any cats out of any bags by naming this rectum orifice as it has been in the local and state papers the last couple of days.

David Chieffo is his name and if he has caused you any loss of money, from one of his crooked deals, I would hie myself to the local PD and pile on too this piece of shit!

He really needs to get what is coming too him, and I think that the folks at Enterprise car rental are going to finally get the job done!

Take warning out there all you other deadbeats and thieves, we are after you!

The DHS loves me!

By a strange coincidence, just as an article in the BIT shows up today talking about my model plane building fetish, a call from the grimy gropers of DHS, in the personage of one Agent Thomas Smith of the NYC office, arrived at my telephone today! Just 3-4 hours after the BIT hit the streets. Imagine that! That tells me they must have been monitoring me for some reason! Wonder what that could be?

They just called to tell me that it was against the law to fly a model plane within a mile and lower than 10,000' of an operating airport.
They also said that I will be fined 2k dollars if I do it again!

Well just to prove once again that they are not all as swift as they like to think they are, The actual rules adopted just two years ago says the distance must be 3 nautical miles, and not OVER 400'!

Those same rules say nothing about fines at all. They also say that with the permission of the controlling ATC, --"or"-- the local AIRPORT MANAGER who can rescind those restrictions for short periods, thereby permitting flights of said model planes. As in, you know, if there are no planes in sight, none within range of the facility, none broadcasting their intention to land forthwith at said spot, it must be assumed that the airport is in an unused situation.

Oh yeah, he said they will be coming out next week so they can threaten me some more in person.
This country is fast on it's way to the ash-heap of history.

OBTW, I DO HAVE the permission of the Airport Manager to use the side airspace when there are no planes in the vicinity. And if one does approach, with my brandy new $8k hearing aids plugged in I can hear him coming as he lifts off from his own FB.

If this guy says the wrong things too me, I may get all short fused and tell him what I really think of his place of employment and the people he works for! Especially his boss Janet! I may be trying to email everybody from inside an incarceratory! JAIL. TIFN

What's up with the "Gunwalker" Scandal?

What the hell is going on in good old DC? No not the debt ceiling farce or any of the other monetary bullshit that is paralyzing the place!

I want to know why in the hell there has been NO HUMONGOUS OUTCRY of outrage, over the grossly offensive, despicable, and reprehensible act of letting all those guns be sold to the Mexican Cartels during the "Fast and Furious"disaster?

WHERE are all the so-called non partisan, uber-correct journalists whose JOB it always was, was to inform the public of gross dereliction and malfeasance of our elected officials? Have they all died and gone to heaven and left us with the present bunch of ass kissing obama lovers?

Why isn't the WAPO or the NYT or any of the other big name papers all over this like stink on a pile of nitrogenous waste matter?

They were right there every time some Republican made a mis-step, or a toe touch in a bathroom stall to the point of hounding them out of office. They didn't have too much to say about mr.hotdog, err, wiener either!

This whole affair makes the Watergate affair look like a high school prank by a bunch of kids. At least Nixon didn't get anyone killed! The tally is up to about 150 Mexicans so far and at least three US CITIZENS!!! How many more are going to die with guns that made it into the hands of US criminals? How the hell can anyone turn their backs on this mess and let all those people at the top of the pile walk away unscathed?

How come there is not a special prosecutor going after Eric Holder and the rest of BATFE leaders and on up the ladder too obomanation. Holder screams that he knew nothing about it but he gave a speech some where back in '08 and specifically mentioned that there had been money directed too this operation! It is on tape! It is all over the web! Why has this bastard not been canned and arrested?

A lot of those Nixon "co-conspirators" went to jail for various terms, and it looks like all these obomadroids are going to get a free pass because the people who have the power to do something, and who SHOULD BE SCREAMING about this barbarous and contemptible act are doing nothing!

I'm pissed and so should every other citizen of this once great country be. If the powers that be let prosecution of this slide away, well then this country is done as any sort of a model to be held up to others as a role model. TIFN.

Aftermath of the 4th of July

The last day of the 4th of July weekend ended as usual with about 1000 to 2000 young people ending up on the beach below the Surf Hotel and extending down to the Trustum Dodge monument. As usual there was an uncounted amount of under age drinking. It got to the point where there were in excess of 15 to 18 calls to that location for various problems. I don't know what they were so won't speculate as I'm sure to be called to account if I'm wrong. Suffice it to say that it was a trial for the Rescue Squad as they were called upon between 3 to 8 other times for other problems on other parts of the Island

The reason I write this today is to re-mention that for the last 3 years, after all these drinkers/revelers left the beach, it was a total and unmitigated disaster! Besides the deiterus of drinking, i.e. cans, bottles, beer boxes, wine bottles etc. there were many items of clothing. From sweatshirts, shoes, pants, shirts, underwear of both genders, and bathing suit tops and bottoms. This kind of leads me to believe that many of the young folk left the Island on the last ferries is somewhat a state of shall we say "dishevelment".

So as usual the beach was a mess and it had been arranged informally for the same folks who had cleaned it up for the last two years to again meet at the beach the next morning about 6 AM to again do the deed. Well imagine my surprise when we arrived to find that a dump truck had been left there over night and it was loaded to overflowing, and with just as much for a second load piled along side it.!

It seems that another 20 to 25 people who were just as pissed as we had been, had arrived shortly after all the despoilers had left and proceeded to completely restore the beach to its usual pristine, well almost, condition!

I have not been able to ascertain just who these folk were, or who the organizer was, but have been told it was a crew of the younger generations. SO, on behalf of all the Islanders who live here year round, I want to say THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART! I've lived here for 73 years, and absolutely love this Island and am tickled to death that there really are like minded souls among us!

So if someone would like to "spill the beans" as to who these folks are, I would be most happy to recognize them in this space!!! Thanks again Guys and Gals. TIFN

Invitation to Herr Spier

As is usually the case, nay, always the case, whenever a letter arrives in the paper that is at odds with the preconceived ideas of Mr. Spier, he takes it upon himself in his inimitable style to try and prove to his other admirer-er, that his view is the only correct one and all others are deeply flawed and suspect. It must be tough to live on such a small Island and not be able to find others of the same towering intellect to converse with in a rational and reasonable manner. So in the interim I guess the next best thing is to cast aspersions of mental deficiency on anyone who dares depart from the norm of the elitists among us.

So while we are using quotes from famous folks lets try and not let this one pass. It is also from Mr. Spiers first choice of mentors, Mr. Ghandi to wit;
- Many people imagine that they alone are right and everyone else wrong, and they do not consider that there is anything unworthy in forcing their point of view down other's throats. This error has to be rectified. If we are in the right, we must have infinite patience.

“August sources”? Although I am an agnostic, I'll give you Jesus and Buddha, but no way in hell will I give you Mohammed! And if you are not completely obtuse you will know why. While I was out there circumnavigating the oceans of the world, courtesy of Uncle Sam, I had hundreds of hours to read from cover to cover both the Bible and the Koran/Quran, plus a few hundred others as well.

You “suspect” very wrongly that my rhetoric is the product of Glen Becks TV program. I have seen about a total of 3-4 hours of his shows. So you are totally wrong on at least that one count, and who knows how many more. Oh I would love to hear your “moral and ethical rebuttals” of our positions. They will most likely have all been espoused before by all those sites listed below and your endeavors will be naught but a repeat and rehash of the same failed policies and ideas. You do so love to denigrate and demean other people in public arenas, witness your years on the Zoning board, and your most recent missive to this paper.

And I also could “fill the newspaper with facts, figures, and argument” to support my positions. From sources a lot more ethical than the NYT, the WashPo, Media Matters, The Huffington Post, The Daily Koz, Code Pink, and on and on ad nauseum. What is that old saying, “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer”? That is why I read those idiots!

Do you really want to do this debate in a forum where quite a few people will see it? Well I will give you the opportunity to avail yourself of that forum which is already in place and has been for six and one half years. Seeing as you deem this newspapers “Letters to the Editor”column to be an inappropriate location for said conversation, hie yourself to this spot on the internet, www.islandvoice.blogspot.com and there you may vent till your heart is content! You bring your numbers and I'll bring mine. We'll keep this list of topics you enumerated by the computer so as not to miss any of the subjects of which you think Bob Zeringo and I are so totally deficient in.

And for your edification, as most people are not wont to write letters to the editor for fear of being the subject of one of your hurtful tirades against them, in the course of the last two to three weeks I have had quite a lot of people either call, drop a note in the mail, or approach me on the street/store/post office to tell me that they approved most heartily of what I had written!

New Ventures

Well my "three little piggies" are all getting bigger! One will be just about right when Labor Day arrives. He will then be off for a days rest and recreation while turning slowly on the newly prepared spit while suspended over a lovely bed of red hot coals! The other two guys are going to have to wait till late fall to become "stock" in the new freezer.

One of the "chllds" and myself are going to try our hand at making various types of sausages this winter. Venison and pork with the right spices makes for a very tasty breakfast sausage. We have lots of other ideas of what to put inside those casings. We finally have all the accoutrement's of the process on hand and are now just waiting for that tender young deer to jump on the table.

And then just to see if we can do It , I have located and accumulated all the tools necessary to make our own cheese. Going to start out with a nice hard cheddar, and then have a go at making a mascarpone. Then I won't feel so bad eating it knowing I didn't shell out most of a ten dollar bill for 8 ounces. Yeah Yeah I know, after buying the needed stuff that first one will probably be closer to $100 for the first 8 ounces. But then it gets cheaper and cheaper the more we use the tools!

I'll let you all know how things turn out,or not!

OBTW, only got 5 answers on the blog previous, but for the last 10/12 days of meeting folks on the street, in the store, walking/riding around, there have been close to 50 folks who have stopped me to thank me for putting that letter in the paper two weeks ago. Here is a copy of a letter I sent to the BI Times today. It is in reference to a story about Professor Stephen Davidson's new book where he tells us all about how good the "obamacare" health care law is for us.. He does say that there are a few small problems with it.

Yeah, I'll say there are a few problems. Anyway, here is the full text of the letter as I sent it. Spelling and grammar mistakes are all mine as I am only a graduate of the BI School System circa 1956.

To the Editor,

I have a few questions that I would like to ask about the contents and subject matter of the article about Professor Stephen Davidson's book, “Still Broken:Understanding the U.S. Health Care System”.

Why is it that if this is such a “great system” for ALL the American people, are so many of its most vociferous and vocal proponents of this thing for all we “little people”, getting waivers from having to participate? Why is that? Is it not true that because of past laws enacted by these self same people, that they will never in their lifetime have to participate because they have legislated themselves out of it in perpetuity? Hmmm?

Does anyone know or care that, Nancy, “we have to pass this law in order to find out what is in it” Pelosi and her husband's company is now exempt from participation?

Does anyone know or care that, almost all of the Unions of this country who donated hundreds of millions of dollars to the obama campaign are now exempt from participation?

How about the fact that good old AARP who was oh so very much in favor of this “obomonation”, has now received its exemption from participation?

To date there are already well over a thousand businesses, companies, and various others too whom obama is beholden, who have received their exemptions for services rendered.

Why is it that whenever the subject of the broken health care system is brought up, the trial lawyers associations, groups, etc. are conspicuously absent from the agenda? Those are the people MOST responsible for the high cost of health care! Yet you will not hear of any serious calls for tort reform from politicians of any stripe. They the pols, are for the most part, deeply in bed with those same groups.

Oh by the way, how many of those 30 million new healthcare recipients are illegal aliens? NOT immigrants, ALIENS? And how many are going to actually be paying into the system? Yeah, that's what I thought. This is a perfect example of the Cloward-Piven strategy to destroy the capitalist system and slide in a Socialist one while nationalizing virtually every company in the country.

Why is it that thousands of doctors are refusing to take on new Medicare patients? Why are so many either quitting the profession, moving their operations offshore, can you say Costa Rica, or just retiring if they are able? A few of them that I know personally, see the end of health care in this country as we have known it for the last 50-60 years, rushing towards us like a runaway freight train. And what replaces it will not be good!

Faulting the Bush administration for all the ills of the country is the standard fallback position of the acolytes of the Cloward-Piven (may I also say Karl Marx) groups of Coastal Social Elites. Forty to fifty years of indoctrination of our youth by these professorial socialists, have put them very close to achieving their stated objectives of bringing down this country through manipulation of the economy and the politics of our governing body.

Go out on the street and ask anyone who is actually paying the taxes to fund all these entitlement programs, wether they think the governments role NEEDS to be limited, and wether its size has eroded the peoples confidence in said body. I really don't think that a single person would vote for bigger government after seeing where we are now fiscally, economically, employment wise and how our stock, (not stock market) has plummeted precipitously in the last 2 years since this incompetent president has been, “leading us from the rear”.

Wasn't Bush twos budget deficit around $1.5B? With out taking over the banking and Auto industry. Where is that deficit now after 2 years of obama? $1.2 to $1.5 trillion with a “T”! With a debt ceiling of around $14 something trillion? Please come back George!!

Quoting Mr. Davidson, “The underlying principle driving this agenda, is that 'everyone must have',(emphasis mine) financial access to the services they need.” Wether they can pay for it or not! If that is not pure socialism in action then I don't know what would qualify!

Off to the RI hospital domani to see the doc that did my carpel tunnel operation on both hands 13 years ago.

It has come back with a vengeance and very quickly. Two months ago it was itching of the palms right at the base of the fingers. Hell I was happy for a while! Itchy palms was an old wives tale that you were about to come into a bunch of money. I thought It was a sure thing that I was about to win the 230 million dollar lottery!

Not so! Now the tips of all fingers on the right hand are in the "numb" mode and I have to be careful what i am about to touch, As in HOT! This typing is an adventure also, as I go backwards fixing boo boo's as much as I go forward!

Oh well, we'll find out tomorrow just what is in the wind.

Then in 6 days, it is cataract removal in the left eye! Just recently bought a very expensive pair of hearing aids, (thank you Naval Aviation).

After all those acquisitions, all I need is a new and improved brain to keep it all together and running rightly!!

I'm all through whining for this time, but like the Terminator, "ah'll be bock"!! TIFN

EYEBALLS!!

Well it has been over a month since last post, but all there is to bitch about is obamaroid and I think everyone knows how I feel about that turd and what he is doing to this country. So I'll skip ragging on him and go somewhere else.

Lets see, I went off Island a week ago today and had a cataract removed from the right eye last Monday. When I finally got into the operating room and watched the beginning of the process, I disappeared down this long tunnel lit with green, red, and blue lights. By the time I reached the end of it and became aware of where I was, a total of 14 minutes had elapsed!!!

The old fuzzy cataract was gone and in its place was a brandy new lens implanted in the eye, and with which, one week later I can see for distance like when I was a Kid! I think! I've been wearing glasses since I was ten years old!!

I go back this coming thursday for a checkup and to schedule the same operation on the left ocular device.

So while I am here, are any of you folks who read this irregular post, doing anything in the way of making you and your family ready for when TSHTF? Just wondering as a lot of things are already becoming hard to find. Checked out the escalation of the food prices lately? Been off a few times in the last two months and have noticed that in Shaws and S&S that the shelves have big empty spaces where they never were before. The food right on the front edge of the shelves were backed up with reserve stuff right to the back of the shelf. Not so with a lot of things now. A couple of cans/bottles deep and nothing behind. Hope all have been putting a few things by. Am I a crazy right wing, Tea (bagger) party believing, gun toting, 2nd Amendment, ,pack-ratting, nutcase? So Sarah would say,"You Betcha"! TIFN

Reality in the Mideast

I'm sure most folks are pretty well aware of just what is going on in the countries of the Mideast. Just look at all the different countries where people have finally had enough of the dictators that have been inflicted on them.

What was the First thing Hitler did to the Germans when he came to power? What did Mussolini do? How about Franco, and all the other petty dictators all over Europe and virtually the world?

Why, they took all the guns away!! Imagine that. And all the little sheeple just let them do it because they had become so enamoured of the bullshit that was driven down their throats. Then later it finally dawned on them as they were slowly being decimated for various reasons, ethnicity, color, political leanings, not enough matter between the ears!
So what could they do about it all? Not much, as they had given away all their means of self defense!

Just look what has been happening yesterday and today in Libya. People being bombed by their own military and shot down in the streets like mad dogs by their police using heavy machine guns. But sheer numbers and determination are likely to turn the tide there. Already some of the military are refusing to kill their own families, friends and countrymen! You have to be one hard hearted SOB to kill your own folks just because some syphilitic egomaniac says so.

I really am glad to see these folks rise up and try to get out from under a dictatorial regime. I just wish that they were able to use something other than machetes, pitchforks sticks and rocks to overcome their adversaries.

Now you can see folks for yourselves folks, just why all we right wing crazy gun nuts will do almost anything to hang on to our guns and ammo. This is why the so called "Gun Lobby" does all we can in Congress to stop the continual assault by the many socialist "anti gun" groups from disarming the general public!! They know that as it stands right now, that if they tried any of the methods of subjugation that have happened in these Mid-eastern countries that at least all we right wing crazies would have the means to rise up and PUT THEM IN THE GROUND!

I also don't think for one second that the US Military would stand for it to happen. Police Forces? That is a different story altogether.

OBTW, Did you know that according to the Constitution that the "Sheriffs Offices/Departments" are the ONLY legal officers of the law that we are supposed to have?

SO be not afraid folks, for as much as you have tried to disarm everyone of us, when and if the time comes when we have to come to your aid, rest assured we will be there!!! And we won't even ask what your views are on individual gun control! TIFN

Wisconsin Winners

It must be really tough when you have been on the receiving end of all the largess of other peoples money, brought to you through the good offices of your favorite labor union for all the years you have been a "public employee", only to finally face the fact that the good times are about over.

You all keep saying that you are willing to take cuts, albeit small ones, in your wages and will be willing to pay a percentage of your health care premiums. But that was brought to you in the beginning by the gross mis-use of the collective bargaining rules! So why would anyone with two grams of brain matter, believe that the very self same thing would not happen again if these onerous CB were not done away with. You keep screaming about subverting Democracy! And just what about the Democracy infringements you have inflicted on all the people who pay out of their pockets so that you get your mostly undeserved desserts?

I guess you all know that the 11th Amendment gives each of the States the sovereignty to run the matters of their state as the voters see fit. And in Wisconsin, the voters have spoken loud and clear! Each State DOES NOT have to have a Public Employees Union! So it is completely within the purview of the Governor to abolish that abomination as it IS the will of the people! Now all you lefties can rant and rave and call the Governor, The Midwest Mubarak, or Hitler, or Mussolini, but that does nothing more than show your complete ignorance. You guys are always trying to compare apples and oranges and they will never be homogeneous.

So hopefully you have all taken your ill-gotten gains and invested them in all of your messiah Obama's banks and Automobile manufacturing facilities. Or maybe there was a "Stimulus"program in your town that kept you in a few more bucks massaging, errr, managing the money till it was gone. It is probably time for most of you to join the unemployment lines and find out what real life is like when you are off the public tit, errr slop trough! TIFN

Gun Grabbers at work again

Well I listened to Brian WIlliams on NBC news last night ranting about AZ having to re-think their gun laws after the shooting there.
First off he alleged that it would never have happened if BUSH, (AGAIN) hadn't let the extended magazine, assault weapon ban expire. He then goes on to tell us all that the guy had two 30 round clips and fired all of one and was changing them out when he was jumped on. He killed six I believe it is and wounded many others before fe could be stopped.

Now, put this scenario in front of all those people standing in line, what if:

Over the last thirty years, gun owners hadn't been demonized as crazed killers;

What if gun owners rights hadn't been so infringed on, that they can not carry a concealed weapon with out some apparachik saying it was okay?

What if everyone of those people waiting in line had a legally owned and carried weapon, was trained in its use and practiced with it regularly?

Do you really think that that asshole would have gotten off more than 4 or 5 rounds before someone would have taken him down?

Do you honestly think that it would have turned into chaos with all those trained and knowledgable gun toters turning it into a gunfight at the OK Corral?

So Mr Williams, I say to you that the screening process may need some serious tweaking, or at least certain gun shops might need some review of their business practices, who ever fills out the paperwork ascertaining that the buyer is mentally competent and physically capable of using a gun should be held accountable if all he does is look across a counter and says to himself, "well he looks okay too me", and sells him a firearm.

How should you be certified mentally able? I'm not sure without it falling too an officer of the law or worse, a shrink who would be two of the limiting factors in gun sales! How would you pick one that was neither, rabid pro or con in his deliberations and examination? I don't know.

But I know one thing for sure, there WOULD NOT have been near as many injured folks there or anywhere else!
Just think how the carjacking incidents would go down if every potential jacker thought that all those drivers had a gun in their hand pointed at THEM!! TIFN

Well I guess I'm going to have to get off my lazy butt and get back into this blogging stuff again. The bullets, rocks, slings and arrows are not falling as thick and fast around here so I guess I can come out of the cellar and stop counting my bullets,bread, and potatoes!

So what is everyones take on how many more Constitutional rights are going to be abrogated and or diminished by this intellectual midget in the Whitehouse? He is doing an outstanding job of turning this country into a socialist shit-hole by using his "executive order" powers, his appointment of 40 some unconfirmed by Congress "Czars", and worst of all his appointment of people to really powerful jobs during times the Congress is not in session. He uses every means at his disposal, legal,shady,or otherwise to bring down this great country.

Go back to the top of the page where my profile is and reread the part about fighting for your freedom and about when you should start! The time is behind us when we should have begun, but it is still not too late! Start again tomorrow to inundate these phony national politicians from our state to do what they were sworn to do when they took office, 'To defend and protect the Constitution of the United States of America"! That oath did not mention one thing thing about fealty too your political party of choice, and it certainly said nothing about taking uncounted dollars from unions to do their bidding in the halls of Congress, NOT ONE FRIGGING WORD! So just what is a CoW?

The Clerk Of The Works job description template includes the following job summary: To provide on-site observation, issue progress reports, oversee budget, act as owner's representative with architects and contractors, and monitor all operations to ensure quality of construction in accordance with specifications and code requirements. Additional information available includes essential job functions, additional responsibilities, and education and experience requirements.

Anybody got any idea just WHERE our CoW is for this job? Well I just found out today that he resides, on a daily basis in the grand old city of Beantown Ma.! What the hell is he doing up there? He must have fantastic eyesight to be able to monitor just what is going on down here almost a hundred miles away!

I thought the operative words in the job description was "on-site observation"? So just what is going on here? Is there some sort of an agreement between the hire-ee and the hire-er? Dollar bills being kicked around? back and forth?

Just how does one go about getting in this largess where you get paid $100K to not show up on the job? Didn't we just go through an election where the people of this country told the friggin' politicians to straighten up and fly right or else? SO what the hell is the reason the local ones and the bueareucrats just blow us all off and go right to outright crookery? I'm pissed and you all should be too!! TIFN

On, and Of Kings and Queens

I just came across this in a folder full of misc. "stuff" and thought I'd post it here. It was written about 10-12 years ago or whenever the Queen Mum croaked. I think I sent it to the local paper but Mr. Wood declined to print it, so 'ere it is matey's!

ON AND OF KINGS AND QUEENS

The recent notices on TV and in the newspapers about the passing of “The Queen Mum”, has brought out of hiding in me, all the feelings of the ardent separatist that led my ancestors to depart the European Continent three hundred and some years ago. And to then become involved in that little brush fire called the American Revolution. I watch the rites being acted out with regard to the death of Elizabeth’s Mother and my revulsion for the whole system of Kings and Queens, rises to the fore.

They speak of themselves as being “of royal blood”. Well, just what is royal blood? Is it imbued with, or does it posses some “factor” that the rest of we commoners don’t have? Is it really blue? If so, is it blue because it is “special” or because it is tainted? Where did it come from in the first place? Was it brought here from another world and injected into them? I think not. The only thing that we know for sure about royal blood is that it has been sorely weakened by the repeated occasions of inbreeding that has gone on for hundreds of years!

So from where did these people derive their ability to call themselves Royal? When you take a good long, long, look back in time, you discover that we all arose from virtually the same line of ancestors. Cro-Magnon I believe is the presently accepted line of descent.

All over the European and African continents as the tribe moved out to colonize new ground, some of them split off from the main group and went in different directions. Some went on over to England, Ireland, Scotland. Some moved up to the Scandinavian countries. Still others went on to become part of the Germanic hordes and to colonize the Balkans and down into Italy, Greece, etc.

In each of these tribes there was probably at least one strong willed, as well as physically strong person, who took it upon himself to be the leader. He, in all probability, was not elected to the position by any sort of due process. After awhile he may have become disenchanted with the title of “Chief” and cast around for another word that would make him seem to be of more “stature” in the eyes of his other tribesman. In due course and with the continuing evolution of the languages, some one of them came up with the name, “KING”! Then the self-crowned king says, “ I have to call my life partner something, so it shall be “QUEEN”! While we are at it, and in the business of procreating, henceforth all our little offspring will be known as PRINCES and PRINCESSES!” Voila! Thus was born the, NOBLE, ROYAL, MAJESTIC, farce that has been perpetrated on the people of the world ever since!

Over the course of time it spread to all the different tribes, and in order to keep the power solidified and contained within the ruling families, the art of inter-marrying and inbreeding became a major part of their lives undertakings. All the pomp and circumstance that they could possibly add to the trappings of their office, was there solely to keep impressed on the minds of the “commoners”, just who it was that held sway over their very lives. With a snap of their fingers, they could have anyone they took umbrage with dispatched to the nether world.

After a couple thousand years, it looks as though most of the world has come to recognize the fact that Kings and Queens are passe now. They have become nothing more than a financial drain on the treasury of the countries who still hang on to the artificial myth of Nobility and Royalty. I am SO glad that my ancestors had the foresight to either leave, or get kicked out of, Merry Auld England when they did. If nothing else was gained by their departure, it gave me the ability to write this little harangue without the worry of losing my head to the headsman’s axe, as did Anne Bolyn, Kathryn Parr and the rest of “Good KING Henry the Eight’s” marital brood!!

Back in 08 he said he'd been to all 57 states! Hell, I haven't even been to a lot of them, and I can't even find the other seven that he has been too! I think he was talking about those ones out west near la la land. Let's see, The State of Confusion?, The State of Disorganization?, The State of Disorientation?, The State of Stupidity? The State of Unreality ?!!

Well last night he was in at least two of them and thought he was in a third! He was in RI, thought he was in NH and was really in the state Confusion! Oh Yeah, he was probably tired from all his flying around exhorting the faithful to keep the crooks in DC.

Another letter in the mail

Do we have another Arlen Specter in the wings? I haven't quite figured out what is going on with some of the candidates running for office this year.

Is not/did not Mr. Torrey run as a Democrat in the last go round? He is apparently running again under the same banner but with some different twists.

When you run for Second Warden as a Dem. and the guy running for First Warden is also endorsed and put forward by the Dems., why on earth would you attack him in a box holder mailing? What's up with that? Is there no verbal intercourse between members of the same party as to philosophy and agenda? Sounds to me like things are a little fragmented over there.

A new roof and a fresh coat of paint is NOT a solution of any sort! I don't think that coat of paint is going to keep the new roof up there for very long. In my experience if you are going to rehab a building you start with the foundation or what ever underpinnings are there. This is no more than a tourniquet, band aid, approach to a body that needs major surgery. What are the future plans NOW being drawn up to ameliorate this predicament? Any? Just WHAT is under consideration? Time frame? And just where do you propose to get the money?

Oh Yeah, the Old Harbor Dock. Last year it was deemed necessary to hire a Clerk of the Works for the princely sum of $100,000.00 to "oversee" the construction of said edifice. This year there IS NO daily, on the job person there to watch the "works". Whatever made that need disappear? I have noticed the Town Manager appears at the site now and then. Is this the oversight we previously needed? Has she the necessary "degrees" to do this job? I'm sure that "no money " will be the answer, but do we not employ a building inspector with all the necessary qualifications to do that job at no additional cost to the taxpayers? The building business has kind of slowed down so he might have a few minutes a day to devote to this endeavor, if his boss would tell him to so bestir himself. WUWT?

As far as Ms Gaffets attending a lot of the board and committee meetings. WHY? don't you trust your appointees to do the job without your attendance in the audience to intimidate and/or "steer" them too the conclusion you would like? Leave them the hell alone till they bring a recommendation too you. Is that not why you have these, boards, committees, and commissions, so that YOU don't have to attend to all those matters personally?

Well we'll see how it all shakes out in12-14 days. Then we'll see what happens after that. In this economy as bad as it is, I don't see much hope for any money for much of anything except the bare day to day expenses like wages, and bill paying.

Hey guys, you want to save a pocketful of money? Turn off the friggin' street lights!

Is There a Capital Budget in our future? Or the Present?

I don't the answer to this and being to lazy to go down and find out, I pose the question here.

If we do, and I had assumed we always had one, why have not the infrastructure issues been addressed thru the putting aside of adequate monies every year until there is enough to do these jobs! We should have been focusing on doing this for the past two decades and NOT ROBBING the money to do some "feel good" enterprises.

The Harbors dept. has for a long time been the only revenue producing entity among the town departments, yet all the income produced has done very little to enhance their "charges" i.e attending to mooring fields, pump out boat maintenance and acquisition, keeping the harbors in good order. And this is because they just can't "keep" the money to do the things that needed being done. They had to go begging for funds for virtually anything.

This little burg is in dire need of some entity who will go around, and with a microscope, search out internally and externally, every building in the town's inventory and write down ALL the discrepancies and what needs to be done to rectify them in a timely manner.

At one time there was a Town wide person who attended to problems as they were brought to his attention in a hap hazard manner. A lot of the little picayune, niggling things got done but by and large the things that cost thousands and needed more than one person to do them were swept under the rug or tossed on the heap of "things to get done just before they fall apart"! That is no way to run a town or a ship. While I was in the USN, every building,vehicle, ship, airplane, and boat was on a plan called the PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE PLAN! The key word there being "preventative"!

I did this job for the BI School Dept. for one year. It took about 6 weeks of intense scrutiny to find all the hidden problems, and then another month or so to draw up a preventative maint. plan for every bathroom, classroom, all heating equipment, A/C equipment, every electric motor, valve, knob and switch in the building. We streamlined the supply ordering process so that all consumables were ordered between two and three times a year instead of every other day all year long!

SO what is the answer? Hire a Public Works director to coordinate all this stuff and pay him
$50-80K a year? Then hire the person to do it all? At another $30-50k? My solution would be to look around at the locals and find someone that is a carpenter,plumber, electrician, etc. you know, the Jack-of-all-trades guy, pay him a good salary and then keep the building inspector off his ass and let him do the job. Get it inspected if need be. The friggin bureaucrats are what is dragging us into the quagmire in this country! TIFN

350th celebration

Hello All,

I saw in the paper of 10/02/10 an article about the 350th celebration products arriving. So I took the time to read it and even thought about being one of the 26 people to join the “club”. Or at least making a donation of some amount.
Last night I was attending a small get together of about 20-25 folks and this subject came up in conversation. Different feelings about upcoming use of the collected money was a hot topic. Some saw the use of the money for strictly frivolous entertainment purposes as just that, frivolous.
In this economy that we are now enduring, it was bandied about as to wether it would be a much better use of the funds if they were directed toward some lasting, and really needed use. How about if we make the whole idea of the 350th semiseptcentennial celebration an opportunity to do something that really needs doing within the Towns infrastructure?
Like what you may ask? How about getting a new roof on the Fire Barn before all that very expensive and needed equipment inside is subjected to the vagaries of the weather?
How about rebuilding the old Mill Pond Bridge before someone drops out of sight through it? We could even name it the 350th Memorial Bridge or some such.
Even the total rehabilitation of the Fred Benson Beach House might fall in this pervue. I understand it is in pretty rough shape as only temporary and rudimentary fixes have been the norm for the last few years.
If the committee thinks they can raise $25-50K for musical entertainment which is at best, a fleeting memory in a few days, why not go all out and go for the big bucks it would take to get the job, whichever venue is selected, DONE?
I have a feeling that contributions to a lasting, visible, and much needed repairs of infrastructure, will come in larger denominations than for a little instant gratification. Something we all need to be weened off of!

Where is the money?

I was talking to a couple members of the Town Council a few days ago and the emerging( for YEARS) problem of the Neck Road from the Beachead to Beach Avenue came up.

I asked what plans there were in the works to get something done to prevent the road becoming washed out in the next few good Noth'easta's or a hurricane?

One of the members said too me that back in 1992, money had been allocated to the town to fix the road up by the outfall pipe where it washed out in Hurricane Bob. He said that at that time, there was also a good dose of bucks allocated for shoring up the Neck Road as a preventative measure. Well as we can see there are no preventative measures in sight down there! There are now, by my count, 25 separate "cuts" to the beach along that same delineated stretch of road.

Man, we are doing ONE HELL OF A JOB OF DOING NOTHING!!

Flag Etiquette, or lack thereof!

Every day for the last week or so as I have gone by the Town Hall, I've noticed something that really gets me up tight!
It is the fact that our United States of America Flag is being flown at the yardarm level at the outside position.

It is a wonder too me, that if there is a problem with the halyard or the pulley on the main pole, just why the hell doesn't SOMEONE (Town Manager?) call the Chief of the Fire Department and ask them to bring over the ladder truck and a new piece of line and get the damned thing fixed!

It is an unintentional desecration of our main artifact of national unity and pride I'm sure. Two or three times I've started to go in and raise the question of why it was being flown as such, But my well known propensity for flying off the handle would probably result in a visit by the local constabulary.

So I am doing it this way. If anyone reads this, why feel free to enter the halls of ineptitude and beard those lions in their den! TIFN

A Letter to the Editor from a disgruntled letter recipient.

A letter appeared in the BIT friday referring to the letter they received from Mr. Mooney. The writer was decrying the use of a few words, and his use of "divisive politics" to describe what has been going on in the Town Hall among it's elected denizens and other assorted hangers on. I will copy Mr. Mooney's comment, and then the response to it by the letter writer. To wit:

HE SAID: The recent attempt to reinterpret jack Gray's donative intent with regard to West Beach Road is self serving and a serious violation of the public trust.

SHE SAID: Can't we do better than calling political opponents "self serving"?

I SAID: What other words would you use to name an action that will be, in the end, a total detriment to the general population of the Island?

HE SAID: Referring to the West Beach Road residents as "greedy" because they objected to a wind turbine in their backyard is reprehensible.

SHE SAID: Can't we do better than calling political opponents, "reprehensible"?

I SAID: "Reprehensible," seems to me to be the perfect word to describe the mindset of the person or persons who uttered the word "greedy" in reference to those homeowners! How about despicable?, nefarious?, vile? I think disgraceful fits that person to a tee! Hmmm, wonder who it was?

HE SAID: Alleging that a relative of Jack Gray's companion in later life, constituted a "legal heir" who had no objection to altering Jack's intent is absolutely sinister!

SHE SAID: Can't we do better than calling political opponents, "sinister"?

I SAID: SHould we have called such a ploy, oh lets see, "heartening?, maybe propitious?, no? how about benevolent and honorable? It couldn't possibly be anything perfidious! I call it Absolute Bullshit!

I just find it SO HARD to believe that any elected official of this town would have the gall to go behind the back, and dead body of a land donor in order to circumvent his wishes. Yeah right!

Well I guess the "sinister" members of the council, ---that would be those of the "left" persuasion (err, in case you didn't know it, the word "left" comes from the Latin "sinistre". Not sure of the spelling but close, Fits perfectly now doesn't it.)--- figure they are continuing the work of looking out for all we "little people", tea baggers, right wing crazies by "doing what is right for we unthinking clods"!!!

Revisiting Mr. Terry Mooney

Well I received a letter in the mail today as I am sure a lot of other folks on BI did from Terry. It was a most welcome piece of correspondence. He gives a very good account of how he first became acquainted with BI, and of his activities over the intervening years. I would even go so far as to say that they were in the words of some people, me included, "Impeccable"! Jeez, another Vet!

So how do I reconcile my being a life long Elephant supporter with the idea of voting for a Donk for the first time since Kennedy? Well for the first time in a long time I like to believe that someone is really going to actually DO something about the problems of this town.

The first and foremost thing for the new First Warden to undertake, would be to actually practice that old political saw called, "Fiscal Responsibility" We hear about it all the time but we keep right on pissing money down the drain for crap we don't NEED or WANT.

As an example, we were told recently that we would NEED to hire engineers and "experts"to tell us how to "take care" of the Spring House pump house! Three or four guys with a long chain and a bulldozer and a match could do the job nicely in about two hours! OHH Heresy!!! How did this edifice that houses a water pump that has been defunct for 40 years or more, become a Historical Artifact? Has anybody famous or historical ever spent the night there? Maybe Bill and Monica under the pump housing platform? This is just another of the elitists cry for attention. Damn, it is just another of a thousand buildings on this Island that has had it's day in the sun and it is time for it to go.

Err, sorry about that! Couldn't resist. Anyway Terry, after you get elected keep on pursuing that elusive goal. Although I don't think it is all that out of reach now. Remember when the whole Fiscal Dept. was housed in the BIG? Remember when you could go there and get any information you needed in 4-5 minutes? Remember when the budget balanced and the people of the town could find out where every red cent had been spent? Then remember when it all went to hell and moved to the Town Hall?

The bullet points on the reverse of the letter refer to some of the more egregious ploys that have been "perped" (yeah I know that is not a word, but I like it) on the folks of this little burg. Actual honesty and aboveboard actions seem to have taken a long holiday here on BI!

So yeah, I am actually going to vote for a, ah, ah, ah, oh what the hell, a DONK! And I don't use that term in a perjorative manner. And yes I AM going to make a donation to the cause, Check is in the mail Terry! TIFN

IS THE WORM TURNING?

Well at least nine of the crooks in the State House got the boot yesterday! Not crooks you say? Just honest folks trying to do their best? Bullschuies!! Err, Jewish word mis-spelled means S*** There has been a one party system in this State for the last 50 years and they ALL had a hand in perpetuating it.

Well now all we have to hope for is that the ones selected in the primary, will do what they say and put us back on the path to a viable place to live and raise kids and families. All the free entitlements lavished on certain groups of people and paid for by the people who actually work has to stop!

Education Reform? Throw out all the so-called experts and go back to the basics IN ALL AREAS! Not just reading writing and 'rithmetic, but HISTORY for a start. shit-can all the books in use that have the revisionist versions of what really happened in history. I just spent part of the Summer reading three of the books used in the BI school. They are, Triumph of the American Nation;Harcourt,Brace,Jovanovich, for American History. For World History; People and Nations by Holt, Rinehart,and Winston, and for Civics; American Civics, by Holt, Rinehart,Winston.

These three books have minor problems with the recounting of actual happenings but are probably the least "revised" all the texts out there. I would attribute their selection and use in our School to the over-riding integrity and astuteness of the history teacher for the last 20 years, Mr. Bill Young.

But they all have areas where the "feel good" stuff perpetrated by the left still comes to the fore.
I am wondering if BI is going to fall in line with a lot of other school districts in the US and declare that from now on we will have multiple Valedictorians per each year! This, so that those students NOT selected won't feel so bad!

No one will have to compete against anyone else because, "we are all EQUAL"! What a crock! Is that what is going to happen when they finish 12 yrs. of school and then 4 years of college only to find out that they are NOT all equal when they go looking for a job? Happening right now! Ask a recent grad just high up the chain of command, or more appropriately, the FOOD CHAIN he is starting his working career. Uh, second towel man at the local car wash?

Well finally, after 30-40 years of the, "Dr. Feel Good People", Maybe we will finally go back to what really works and is truly in touch with reality. Yeah! Good luck with that! TIFN

He wishy washed his way around the whole question and the only thing he would commit himself too, was that the people of that fair city should be, "The only ones to make that decision". What a pussy!  "Inherited Deficit" ???
The Washington Post babbled again today about Obama inheriting  a huge deficit from Bush. Amazingly enough,...... a lot of people swallow this  nonsense. So once more, a short civics lesson.

 Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from  Congress, and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democratic Party. They controlled the budget process for FY 2008 and FY 2009, as well as FY 2010 and FY 2011. In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush,  which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got  tough on spending increases.

 For FY 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid bypassed  George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running  until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus-spending  bill to complete the FY 2009 budgets.

 And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member  of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he  signed the omnibus bill as President to complete FY 2009.  If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the FY 2007 deficit, the last  of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the  fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress  took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.

If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself.  In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is, I inherited a deficit  that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January   20th.!!! Am I f***ed up or what? TIFN

Terry Mooney for First Warden?

My first question to Mr. Mooney would be to ask if he is a dyed in the wool strict democrat as defined by the originators of the party? There to look out for the "little guy" and make sure the robber barons et al, inflict minimal hurt to them financially and morally? Is this the kind of democrat you are? OR,

Are you a so called Progressive Democrat who is totally in line with the Obama Administration and the direction he is leading this country? And so there is no mistake about this direction, anyone with at least one half of a brain can see that this direction is toward a Socialistic oriented society where the government oversees every faction of your life from cradle to grave. That is where we are headed as fast as he and his socialistic/communistic minions in all the high places can shove it down our throats.

So if you can prove to me that you are of the former orientation, and devoid of the ideas ingrained in the Obama Adoration League ilk, I would cast my vote for you because we need someone in that position to again be looking out for the "little people" instead of using them for their own personal gain and gratification.

I'd put this in the form of a letter to the BIT but know that it would NOT get printed as written!. TIFN

Always Blue For Chicu

So here is your chance to ingraiate yourself with your small children or grandchildren if they are visiting this summer! How to do that you may ask? Well hie thy self down too the Island Bound store and pick up a copy of this children's book. The art work and the colors throughout the book are just beautiful. As is the story itself. It is instructional for us old folks who don't, or didn't know much about parrots, and is an engrossing story for the younger set. I read it too my youngest granddaughter who is three and a half going on 30, and by her questions and comments, you could tell she was totally into the story. Throughout, she kept touching different ones of the pictures and had something to say about each. In later life I think she will be a pretty good critic of both art and literature as she pronounced at the end, that she liked this story!!

It is a story of a young parrot from birth in a tree hole and his subsequent contact with humans and his triumphs and travails over a long long life! Of course there was a Sailor involved which kind of led me right down the garden path! Just had to find out what that was all about. I never knew a parrot was so long lived! So I'll quit with the comments now so as not to give away too much.

Even if you don't have any young ones around you could pick one up for your own edification.

This book, as well many other children's books have been written and illustrated by this author. She is Karen Dugan and many of you will recognise her as the child bride of one Paul Dugan a one time island resident for a lot of years. TIFN

Home Invasion #2

A few months ago I put up a post where I was talking about having bought a pistol or two and was giving my Grandaughters some instruction in how to use them for personal self defense. I referred too the very real possibility of the partial breakdown of law and order as we have known it for the last 200+ years.

In the comments section I drew the ire of some ill informed persons who berated me for being an alarmist and perpetuating the "crazy right wing, 2nd Amendment,etc. line of thought"! This was because I had mentioned something about Home Invasions here on BI. These persons adamantly stated that particular occurrence would NEVER happen out here on BI!! Went to grreat lengths to describe my delusions.

Well in the intervening time since then, it has happened to our house not once but twice! Neither of them turned into a slaughterhouse affair either by the intruders or myself who JUST BARELY was able to restrain myself from putting 20-30 rounds of .223 into them, or possibly a few rounds of 00 buckshot up close and personal! They both came to a benign ending. The first, because the guy didn't like looking down the receiving end of a Sig 1911 .45 ACP pistola. The second required the assistance of the local Constabulary to effect this ones departure.

So don't just take it for granted that you are beyond and above all the self same types of disasters that befall the people of the mainland just because you live out here on BI! We are NOT insulated from all those happenings by a few miles of open water like we used to be. Shit happens, and it happens out here also! TIFN

Non-Momentous posts!

I have decided to not try and wait for some "thing" of import to stir me into putting up a new post. From now on it will be every little petty thing I can think of that will come up here. Could be 20-30 words or a lot more. We'll see what happens.

First one: There was a debate up in Providence somewhere yesterday or today, not sure which, by all the candidates for Governor of this state. SO when and if we manage to elect another Democrat to that position How is that going to bode for all we 'little" taxpayers? There will be no one there to veto the exorbitant spending bills they are sure too come up with. When, in the last 50 years that the Dem's have controlled this state, have they done much of anything that was of a constructive and continuing nature but keep on handing out money and jobs to their "faithful", read crooks, friends? Every time the present Gov. tried to do anything to stop the bleeding of money from our pockets, it was overridden by those who controlled the House and Senate.

Anybody got any ideas how to stop this crap? Of course all the recipients of the largess will never vote any other way than to continue the status quo. We are again, totally screwed! TIFN

Impeachment?

A: How does one go about beginning the impeachment of a President? Well, as a private citizen there is not much you can do except rant and rave and try to convince the majority of the people who can impeach him that it must be done.

B: Who can begin these proceedings? That is solely the purview of the House of Representatives to actually vote to impeach the president. But it is the Senate who must TRY him with the chief Justice of the Supreme Court overseeing the trial. THEN IT MUST BE TWO THIRDS OF THE SENATE WHO VOTE TO ACTUALLY IMPEACH. But with the place totally infested with the Progressive ass kissers in office there right now it will never happen! The ones there now have totally facilitated the the beginnings of the destruction of this country as we know it. There is no use reiterating all the individual "High Crimes and Misdemeanors" that this miscreant has perpetrated on the people of this country. It would take up a LOT of space here. But when November rolls around the landscape in the House may have a decidedly different appearance as regards numbers of obama trolls that inhabit that den of thieves. But after just a cursory reading of the wording in the Constitution, this empty suit is well qualified to be impeached. After the last few days of hearing about how his SEIU and Acorn henchmen as well as the New Black Panther homeys intimidated voters at the polling places so he could steal the nomination from Shrillary, I would think that alone would qualify him under the HCAM's guidelines. There are just too many people who witnessed this who are now coming forward for it to be some, "Far right Wing Conspiracy"! Although the spin doctors are already working that angle!

C: What are the misdeeds/grounds that one has to have committed that would require impeachment?

Virtually every action this turd has done since he got in office would qualify him for impeachment!
So I guess we are going to have to wait till November to see if any of the new electee's have grown any cojones!

OBTW, How about that new RINO from Mass that got Teddy K's seat? right off the bat he sides with Liberman and Dodd on the banking bill along with those two other RINO's from Maine! What a friggin disaster! TIFN

Hopey Changey!

I never thought I'd see the day I would be willing to see Slick Willy back in the Whitehouse, but after 18+ months of Barack Hussein Ohemorroid I would welcome him back on bended knee! NOT bent over, but on bended knee! He may have been an idiot about a lot of things in his personal life, but when it came right down to it and he had a good crisis of some sort on his hands, he took the time to get in a room with people who actually knew how to handle the problem and get it sorted out! He actually knew how and where to go to get too the people who could solve the problem.

Where does idiot child go to do the same thing? He, as well as I, have no clue! Because neither of us has ever had the kind of real world experience in handling that kind of crisis. Where could he go? Back to Chicago to Saul? Richie Daley? The Right Rev. Wright? What the hell do any of them know but how to preach hate and discontent? So Idiot child has not even a faint glimmering of an idea as to how togo about the Gulf Oil problem, not smart enough to suspend the Act that prevents the help from foreign countries from temporarily helping. Keeps Bernanke on board to keep on printing money, Keeps all his know nothing, tax cheating, Marxist, community organizer cohorts on board,to send this country as far down the tubes as they can in four years! I will never live long enough to see us rise up out of this quagmire that Ohemorriod has dragged us down into.

The people that I feel the worst for are the kids born in the last 10-15 years and all those too come in the near future. They are going to see the life style their parents and grandparents worked so hard for go down the toilet, and their own standard of living reduced to something less than Third World countries like England, France, Spain Italy, and the rest of Europe, Scandinavia, and the eastern countries of the Med. We have been truly screwed by this misguided, misanthrope ass wipe and his minions in the WH.

Here follows a letter to a newspaper by a guy down in AZ. If you cannot follow his logic here, and TOTALLY agree with it, you are beyond any reasonable help! It is signed below by the author so I didn't "steal" it as my own for all you nitpickers.

TICKETS OF CITIZENSHIP

If you had tickets to a sports event, concert, Disneyland , or on an airplane, and when you got to your assigned seat, and someone else was in that seat, what would you do? You would call for a person in charge of ticket checking and have the person in your seat removed. You would be properly asked to show your ticket, and you would gladly and proudly do so, for you have bought and paid for that seat. The person in your seat would also be asked for a ticket, and they would not be able to produce one. They would be called “gate crashers” and they would be properly removed.

Now in this huge stadium called the USA we have had millions of gate crashers. We have been asking security to check for tickets and remove the gate crashers. We have been asking security to have better controls in checking at the door. We have asked security to lock the back doors. Security has failed us. They are still looking the other way. They are afraid to ask to see the tickets. Many people say there is unlimited seating, and whether there is or not, no one should be allowed in for free while the rest of us pay full price!

In section AZ, of Stadium USA , we have had enough of the failures of Security. We have decided to do our own ticket checking, and properly remove those who do not have tickets. Now it seems very strange to me that so many people in the other 49 sections, and even many in our own section do not want tickets checked, or even be asked to show their ticket! Even the head of Security is chastising us, while not doing his own job which he has sworn to do.

My own ticket has been bought and paid for so I am going to proudly show it when asked to do so. I have a right to my seat, and I want the gate crashers to be asked to show their tickets too. The only reason that I can imagine anyone objecting to being asked for their ticket is that they are in favor of gate crashing, and all of the illegal activities that go with it. Such as drug smuggling, gang wars, murder, human smuggling for profit, and many more illegal and inhumane acts that we are trying to prevent with our new legislation. Is that what I am hearing from all of the protestors such as Phoenix Mayor Gordon, US Rep. Grijalva, even President Obama? If you are not in favor of showing tickets, (proof of citizenship, passport, green card, or other legal document) when asked, as I would proudly do, then you must be condoning those illegal activities.

Calamity on Block Island

Block Island suffered a huge disaster yesterday morning. Our History teacher at the school Mr William,(Bill) Young had an apparent major heart attack and died at his home on the mainland. This man was only 47 years old, a virtual child from my vantage point.

He was a bastion of rational thought, an uncommon trait these days. He was a conservative person in his political leanings and no matter how much I tried to pressure him into imparting his views too the children that came through his classroom, he wouldn't do that out right. He told me one time that he would, "present certain material to a class in its correct form, as it actually happened in history, ask a few questions of the students to get them truly thinking and invested in the subject, and then let them come to their own conclusions." Just read an article about the Senators from the Mexican Senate sending Obama a letter demanding that he "Make" the people of Arizona rescind the recently passed law. Just who the hell do they think they are? Why would any sane person even listen to what they had to say? Do they not understand that they have NO say on what goes on in this country? For a country who treats illegal immigrants, or just migrants passing through, as badly as they do, they have huge cojones to demand that WE change our laws to suit them!

I have only one thing to say to them, "Go indulge in a little intercourse with yourself"!

I'll tell you one thing for sure, if I lived anywhere within 100 miles of that border, I would have a self defense 12 gauge shotgun in every room in the house and a good M1 or an M16 within reach at all times! It is like they are in a friggin war zone down there and all the do gooders can do is whine about the POSSIBLE racial profiling that MIGHT go on, as if it doesn't go on now.

After all of Putin's political moves etc., of the last few months, I'll bet that if the NTSB, FBI, and other investigatory entities were to go to Poland and check out the remains of that aircraft, that they would find evidence of some sort of missile residue lodged in the junk pile!

How very convenient that the total top people civilian as well as military were summarily wiped from the face of the earth? In Russia yet! Where we know that when Comrade Putin gets through "personally" heading up the investigation (read that as cover up,whitewash etc), that it will have been a bad case of Pilot error, shoddy A/C maint., wind shear, or maybe just an act of God. So I wonder how things are going to be playing out here on this little Island in the next few years? How many more folks are there out there that will have the money to be building houses out here? How long before this economy goes so far down that nobody comes out here to sit in their million dollar homes? Anybody been counting houses up for sale in the newspaper? It isn't just a few! With the unemployment as bad as it is here in RI, I wonder how many folks are even going to be making day trips over here?

Don't know if anyone looks over at my yard as they pass by but there is another hunk of dirt being chewed up in preparation of a few more long keeper veggies being planted. Tomorrow evening at 5pm till 6pm, on channel 360 Fox News, the Glen Beck show will air a documentary called, "The Revolutionary Holocaust, Live Free or Die"

If you have kids that are in the age group from 14 on up, and if they have graduated from either High School or College in the last ten years or so, You should urge them to sit still for an hour in front of the TV and absorb just what is being presented to them. It will destroy all the revisionist history that has been foist on them during their years in school!!

This program will present the TRUE facts about all the Tyrants, Dictators, Megalomaniacs and other assorted murderers, and genocidal people that have infested this globe for the last 80-90 years. And will not be shown as some sort of misguided leader who was just not nice to his people! Presented in their true light will be the likes of, PolPot, Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Amin, Saddam, and I can't forget Anita Dunn's favorite Philosopher Mousey Dung, doing what they did best, killing their own people and wiping out whole populations of "lesser and undesirable" people. Brown vs Coakley

I am waiting with bated breath for the interim election in Assachussets on Tuesday. I want to see if the people of the state where the first Tea Party was held, has FINALLY pulled their collective heads from those dark reaches of the "netherlands" and come face to face with the reality of just exactly what it is that their so "revered" elected ass wipes have wrought upon them and the rest of us! You know of whom I speak of course, two thirds of the Three Stooges, teddy and barney. The other third from CT. has already thrown in the towel.

For the last four or five days, you cannot have turned on the TV and not seen at least five to ten per hour, of the attack ads presented to us by the Coakley Conspiracy against Scott Brown. I try not to sit mesmerized by the tube for more than an hour or two a day, but in all the time I have in this aforementioned time period, I have yet to see ONE of the negative attacks directed TOWARD Ms Coakley! Have I just missed them all, or has Mr Brown been running a campaign based on what he has done, and will do instead of denigrating his opponent at every opportunity? I'll tell you right out, it would be no contest as to who I would vote for if I were so UNFORTUNATE as to be living in Taxachussets!! TIFN On to the Old Harbor Dock update blog.

2nd update of Dock Works

The above pictures show the extent of the work after 8 days of being on the job. They have about 20 feet of trench opened and have started installing the new bulkhead sheathing. They have been trying to get the first piece in the ground but apparently there is some either springy old wood or a big assed rock down there. An update to later this same morning, They must have figured out how to get past the obstruction, because I watched them finally pound the first sheet right down to where they needed it to go. Be back Next week! And no more taking pictures till it gets really light out!

Ever hear of a Nobel Prize winner, ( not that that means anything anymore) by the name of Milton Friedman? He died 3 years ago, but he wrote a book about what circumstances would bring this country to its knees and finally put it in its grave. It is called Money Mischief: Episodes in Monentary History. Well folks this book that he wrote in the 30's has become a fulfilling prophecy! All the markers and circumstances he enumerated have now all come into alignment and we are right on the verge of becoming the Zimbabwe of the western hemisphere. You know, the country in Africa where a loaf of bread yesterday sold for $10 billion Zimbabwe dollars, and tomorrow it will be $20 billion, if you can even find one to buy.

That is where we are headed when the inflation finally has reared its ugly head and taken a huge bite out of our asses! Your $100 bill may as well have the last two zeros crossed off it right now and it is only going to get worse. SO says the Oracle of BI? Me? Not likely! This all comes from people who are one hell of a lot smarter than me and Timothy Geithner! Every single economist of repute, who does not have his head firmly jammed up the ass of obama can see it coming! And yet our jet-setting president and all his," oh so smart Havard/Yale/Princeton etc.elitist advisers" cannot or rather WILL NOT recognize the indicators and do something about them. Mainly I think, because they don't have a frigging' clue! And besides Barry boy is TIRED from all his duties of playing golf, flying all around the world bowing and scraping too all the despots and other associated scumbags out there. Work? In the Oval office? What's that? I don't have time for that! I have to go to Peoria so that I can read another of my enlightened speeches off the teleprompter, to the great unwashed out there. Virtually every single promise that this ass-wipe made during the run-up to the last election has been negated or swept under the rug, or thrown under the bus! Remember the "partisan working together" one? That really happened during the Health Care thing didn't it"? How about the "I will veto ANY bill that come before me laden with pork"? The Defense Bill had only a minor amount of porky stuff in it, to the measly tune of $42 BILLION I believe it was! He signed that one so fast the pen flew out of his hand and stuck in Joe Bidens ass! BTW whatever happened to that dude? Looks like he got stowed under that same bus.

So finally back to the business at hand. Time to IMPEACH this turkey before he can do much more damage to this country.
What grounds to impeach you ask? How about a very basic premise that has yet to be resolved by ANYONE INCLUDING BARRY HIMSELF? HE still HAS NOT come up with a VALID birth certificate that says he was born on US SOIL!! The one touted to be the real one by all the non-birthers is nothing more than a real photo copy of real Hawaiian certificate that had been filled in sometime in the very recent past! I can't believe that one of our Senators from what used to be a great little state would say such a thing! The idiot has a law degree! You'd think that would make him a little smarter than the average guy, but look at his apparent role model, BHO! The jerk that thinks we have 57 states in this Union! Well maybe we do if you count the "states of, confusion, corruption,elitism, spendthrift ism, sorry-assed-ism" and a few more that escapes right at the moment.

The people of this State really do need to get their heads out of their asses and check out just exactly what the last 50 years of dumocrats have done to this place. What have they done FOR us in the last 50 years that did not also line their pockets to the tune of millions?

Take a good look at the infrastructure of this state and ask yourself why a bridge or an overpass or a piece of road gets built and then there is never a single damned bit of preventative maintenance done to it? Take a ride over the new Newport Bridge and take a good look at all the rust that is already apparent to anyone who would look. Guess the people whose job that is are all too busy up at the state house lobbying for higher wages instead of actually doing their jobs.

Governor Carceri tries to do something about reducing the out of control budget and all the mayors do is complain about their piece of the dole that is going to be taken away or reduced. They do nothing about it from down at their level. They and all the state senators and reps are the cause of the problem so let them fix it! Yeah right! Health Care: As the Senate begins to debate reform legislation, the deadly disasters inherent in socialized medicine in the model nation of Britain should make the discussion a sober one.

While Washington lawmakers, accustomed to the comfort of top-notch medical treatment, consider a federal takeover of the health care sector, patients in Great Britain are dying because that government's system is a mess.

"Up to 10,000 people," the British Guardian reported Sunday, are dying needlessly of cancer each year "because their condition is diagnosed too late, according to research by the government's director of cancer services."

Britain is home to the sort of government-run health care that the political left has tried to push on this country for decades. It is also the home of government-rationed medical treatment. So the sad story of 10,000 needless cancer deaths a year doesn't surprise.

Not every needless cancer death can be blamed, of course, on Britain's National Health Service. In some cases, patients themselves are responsible for the late diagnoses of their diseases.

But the rest can be blamed on the system. Researchers at Durham University have identified four other types of delays patients encounter in receiving cancer care: doctor delay, delay in primary care, system delay and delay in secondary care. All are part of a state-operated system that has a poor record of keeping its trapped patients alive and healthy.

The unnecessary cancer deaths are not the only recent example of the rot in Britain's system.

The Times of London reported Saturday that the health secretary has ordered an immediate probe into "claims that patients are dying due to poor care in at least 27 hospitals around the country."

These are just the latest stories. The poor care that has become the hallmark of Britain's public medicine goes back many years. The long waiting times to see a doctor in the British, Canadian and Swedish government-run systems, as well as the denial of some drugs and what seems to be an institutional neglect of patients, are not new problems.

More government involvement won't correct the ills government has already created. Yet the Democratic leadership in Washington is determined to force more federal control over health care on a public that doesn't want it.

The left wants to be responsible for providing care for all. But what it will be responsible for, if it gets its way, is a deadly decline in the quality of American health care.

I came across this post this AM on PJM and it looks to be a viable way for we the people to again gain control of the Congress and get rid of all the deceitful, dishonest,dumb and debilitated(mentally) deadwood, oh just say it, CROOKS that have the gall to tell us repeatedly how they are there to serve us. The author, a Mister Jeff Pope owns a manufacturing company in the mid-west somewhere. He has come up with this idea and I think it is a great one.

I would like to add some comments at the end of his piece. Just click on the link and read the story and then come back here. It will only take about five minutes of your time, but it could be a way for you to assure yourselves that your children/grandchildren will not become slaves or serfs to an elite group of people who care absolutely nothing about you!! I sent a comment too him after reading the post and told him I was in total agreement with the article. But, I think it should be taken one step further in each in every city, town, burg, in the nation. When these people step forward to put their name on the pledge sheet, a video and still photo record should be implemented on the spot. Then let them know that these photos will be posted in very visible locations as well as here on the Internet and every interested political website that will do it. This just to assure them that there will ALWAYS be eyes on him/her!

I think it would be possible to locate at least one person in every city, town neighborhood who would be willing to keep track of the Representatives voting record on every bill that he does vote on and post it on their website on a monthly basis. If he/she strays from the straight and narrow, send the woman/man an email, letter whatever saying "that's one"!After the next one you will be gone!

And you know what? I'll volunteer to be the one to do it here on the Island, as it is very easy to find out the voting record of each of our present Disrepresentatives! It takes about 4/5 clicks of the mouse! And I would be most happy to turn this blog and its responsibility to some one of a like mind when I begin to drool to much on the keyboard! TIFN.

Things are getting Edgy?

I don't know how a lot of you folks out there are feeling about the status of this country and just where it is headed, but I continue to feel more and more apprehensive!

We have been sliding down a slippery slope since January and if you can't see the writing on the wall, I have no idea where you would have been for the last 9/10 months.

Everywhere you look there is one or more disasters in the making! The economy is still in the tank and well respected economists like Thomas Sowell are still saying we haven't hit bottom yet and when we do old Mr. inflation rears his ugly head. I do believe it was back in the Wiemar Republic that all the same indicators prevailed as are now showing themselves now in this country. Their inflation ran so high that you had to take a wheelbarrow full of cash to go buy just ONE loaf of bread! Don't believe that? Do a little googling!

It becomes more and more apparent to virtually anyone possessing at least one half of a brain that the "Idiot in the Whitehouse" does not have the inkling of a clue as to what in hell he is doing! I saw today in the news that his "job approval" ratings were up a couple of percent over last month. How in the hell can that possibly be true when the narcissistic ass has been EVERYWHERE ELSE but in Washington? He spends more time in the air than a migrating bird heading for Patagonia from the Alaskan tundra! But I guess that is really a good thing as he does less damage in the air than when he is home with michelle.

About all I can do to ameliorate the problem at this level is to keep on stocking up on those survival rations and trying to figure out who the ones are that will be pounding on my door demanding that I give up some of my "stuff" to them just because they say they are entitled to it! Hey man! It is just like those tax thingies I keep sending to the government, they take it and give it to some lazy bum who thinks is entitled to it just "because"!

Well folks, if I were you, I'd be out there with a rasp, roughing and dulling up the ski's so that long glide down the slippery slope will be somewhat slowed up! Remember, vote for NO INCUMBENT next two times around!! TIFN

Hey!!! If the congressional crooks from California, Georgia, and Florida can get hundreds of millions of dollars sent to their states from earmarks, to have the sand on their beaches replaced, only to have it disappear during the next storm, Then I can't understand why Jack Reed and S. Whitehouse can't grab a little money for, "one of the last greatest places on the Earth"! Why do we need it? Not to 'replace" the sand on our east beaches but to preserve it! How are we going to do that you may ask? Well just look at what appears off the starboard side of the ferry when pulling into Pt.Judith next time you go to the mainland. It is a great big long breakwater from here to there and it stops the Block Island Sound waves from obliterating the shore from the channel all the way over too the USCG Light house and station!

So if we were to get one placed from the end of the present breakwater to Clay Head, with a couple of gaps in it, It would be the salvation of our easterly facing beaches, which even the naysayers who used to read this cannot now deny the need for! That is if they have been down to the beach at high tide and with the wind blowing as it has been for quite a while. Check it out domani,(tomorrow) when the wind is supposed to be huffing at about 30-40 knots! It will probably do a fair job of covering your car with a nice crust of salt!

See? I can talk about something other than barry once in a while although he is still a lying two,err make that four faced,insufferable bore, and a low life thoroughly crooked Chicago thug, and a dyed in the wool SOB! No, really!! I kid you not! I have a direct line from the, "all retired military personnel are terrorists" (ala Janet Napolitano the head of Homeland Security) that he is on his way to disgrace our shores with his presence! He has a good friend here on the Island who helped him get elected! You know Mr. Parsons over on Coast Guard road. The guy with the biggest house and the biggest most expensive Helo? I've heard he runs Time Warner or some such entity. You know, all those MSM companies that gave "The One" a free pass when it came to vetting him as has been the norm for the last 200 years?

Anyway, I have heard through the jungle vine that it will be around the 23rd of this month. Man it is going to be fun to watch all the kiss asses run out of the bushes and embrace the "Anointed one"! They will be falling all over themselves trying to suck up to him. I expect he will want to take a walking victory tour of the downtown area just like his Uncle Billy did a few years ago. Playing slap and tickle with the great unwashed and uneducated adoring multitudes, they still not suspecting just what he has in store for them in the future. What was that saying, and who said it about, "There are none so blind as those who WILL NOT see"!

SO I guess I will just stay home for all the time he is infesting this burg, in order to spare myself the stench of socialism that, that man reeks of, and a possible heart attack from having come too close to that negatively charged being.
But all you infatuated folks will probably have unlimited time to photograph he of the rolled up sleeves,(his working man image/mode), and of the tilted,"just so" chin! You know the pose that makes him look so dignified, questioning,and god like in his own estimation!

If you get a chance to ask him just one question, don't make it about health care reform, or the economy, or the cash for clunkers mess, or the TARP money, or the trillions in dollars of debt he has saddled this country for the next 50 years. Windmills and other Hot Air emmissions

Well I am a huge proponent of windmills, and at first blush am all for the two wind farms off of our coastline. But now the "powers that be" (read: corrupt ass wipes) up state and also I assume the builders, Deepwind, of said farm are trying to saddle us with the cost of the transmission line to the Island and the mainland! They want us to pay $3.43 every month for the rest of eternity, all 1700 of us, while the main beneficiaries of the farm, all 538,000 of them will only have to pay. $.38 cents a month? Is there something drastically wrong with this picture? It appears to me that we are about to be screwed again by the wonderful legislators that you folks all elected the last few hundred times around! When are you all going to learn that neither the dems or the repubs, are in that business for the good OF THE PEOPLE? This is just one more glaring example. SO I would say to the town Council to just tell them to run their line right on past the Island and we will continue on our own as we have for the last 350 years. We don't need that kind of "help"! OBTW you folks up there in PVD, be sure and expunge that "plantation" word from our name 'cause I just feel so friggin guilty for having lived in this country that used slaves a 150 years ago! The white guilt is just about to drive me over the edge! I don't think of anything else but that 24/7/365! Oops! Just slipped over so look out for me!

Hey! How about the fact that Uncle Obama is going to give us some of that stimulus money to get Old Town Road repaved? AND WOW Senator Reed is getting us money to fix the dock! So they are going to give us a few hundred thousand dollars for some asphalt and a a few sticks and metal sheathing with one hand, and with the other hand deep in your pockets and/or squeezing the actual life out of you, they are going to completely dismantle the absolute best health care system in the free world so that we may have the wisdom of the mindless bureaucrats to tell us when we can be sick, who to see and when, or whether we even "qualify" to be seen by a doctor. If it wasn't for the fact that this is going to adversely affect my children and grandchildren, I'd say go ahead and get it in place! Then see how long before you would be SCREAMING to get the old "broken" system back in place!!

There must be some kind of new flu strain out there that is affecting the brains of hundreds of thousands, make that millions of people in this country! The funny part is that they, the affectee's all seem to be of the most liberal persuasion!

I only have a twelfth grade education received here on this Island in the 40's and 50's. But somehow I am able to figure out that if you tax the very people who provide the capital, the ingenuity, the chutzpa, the guts,the brains, and most importantly the JOBS, if you tax them to the point they have no money left for R&D, new factories etc., there are going to be NO,NO new jobs available or created! Why does that very simple fact of life and business escape recognition by these folks? Just where the hell do they think all this money and new expertize is going to come from? Probably China and India and numerous other countries trying to fill the vacuum of scientific degrees that we used to provide to the world.

Our Universities and colleges have become so overloaded and packed with mentally corrupted, left leaning professors and teachers, that the last two or three generations of graduates have no idea of what the world is really about and how it works! You can't rewrite history on a daily basis and have young people try to sort the chaff from the wheat,(truth) when the people manipulating the thresher controls that sorts it out, all have a dementia problem! They all STILL think, contrary to scads of failed examples, that socialism in its purest form IS THE SALVATION OF MANKIND!! They still will not face the fact that it DOES NOT FRIGGIN' WORK!!! How many friggin' times are we "doomed to repeat the lessons of history" because of all the idiots we have in teaching positions continue to perpetrate the myth of Socialism? When are the rest of us going to rise up and throw the assholes out? Oh yeah, 'Tenure', the salvation of the halt, destitute(mentally), and corrupt! Well in this environment we are in now, it might be a good time to let the chaff be blown away in the winds of "Hope and Change"!!

BTW all you Obama lovers, How IS that Hope and Change working out for YOU? Up to your expectations? About the only concrete one was to begin the clousure of Gitmo only now he can't find new homes for the bad boys down there. More money for the helpless and those that refuse to work!

Well the State of RI has finally gotten around to putting their hands deeper into your pockets. This time I'm talking about the pretty stiff increases in the cost of registering a car. For the last few years on my old 1994 Dodge caravan it has cost $21 for two years. Today I had to do it again and this time it was$61.50 for one year. Or at least I saw nothing that indicated it was for two. OH well folks, it ain't going to get nothing but worse for quite some time to come. See any new business' trying to relocate to this 'tax friendly' state? Thought not.

One of the local eatery owners mentioned to me that his business was down about 75% a day from last year! That is incredible and does not bode well for the rest of the summer. Of course the weather has been abyssimal for months and that could be a big part of the problem. Maybe better days will be coming, financial as well as weather. Here's hoping! TIFN

I can't believe that the people of this state keep on sending the four idiots we have an Reps. and Senators back to DC. I would hope that after the fiasco that is the Cap and Trade bill has time to sink into their brains and pocketbooks, they will finally come too their senses and realize just who it is those four turkeys are working for.It certainly is NOT US! Our Rep, Jim Langevin actually spoke on the floor about how happy he was to see this bill arrive on the floor for a vote and what a wonderful person the Nancy is for ramrodding up there. Doesn't he realize that Algore has gone underground? Probably to never be heard again on the subject of global warming? All of a sudden, every liberal person I know doesn't want to even talk about it, except for the rabid ones! What an ass! I hope he has other prospects for employment after the truth of this abomination sinks in. Reed, Whitehouse and Kennedy will, or already have fallen right in behind Jimmy L. The thing that really pisses me off is the fact that, NOT ONE SENATOR OR REP. has read this thing all the way through. They have no idea what it completely entails. They have speed readers to read it for them and give them a synopsis of its contents. Yeah, THAT really works! The ones, flunkies, who wrote the damned thing are telling the boss how to vote! How G.D. corrupt is that? And what a complete message of total disregard for the people of this state it sends! It is a total abrogation of the oath they swore too when they took office.

Well folks, besides the tea parties sweeping the country, there is another wave building momentum that we all need to join in on. It is called ABI and it means Anybody But the Incumbents!! It is a notion I fully and devoutly subscribe too and I would urge anyone who is fed up with this particular bunch of do nothing, care less, useless asses to adopt it also!

Back on the Island again--Almost!

I was reading the BIT today and came across Marthe B's column. In it she make reference to the fact the the ocean waves were breaking over the rocks by the Trustum Dodge monument and splashing up onto her car. SO to all those who so doubted my comments about the humongous loss of beach along that stretch over the last 50 years I say, "So there"!!!. Someone else has finally realized just what is happening. In fact if you go down there and take a look along the beach all the way too Clay Head, you'll see that a whole lot of beach is gone and that the waves on a NE wind day are starting to wear away the dunes just past the aforementioned monument at an alarming rate. Now there is not a whole lot we can do to stop that erosion short of building a breakwater offshore about a mile, just like over at Pt Judith! But shouldn't our local government be in the process of pursuing this line of endeavor? Isn't mr obama handing out money to anyone with a shovel in their hands? I say we should all line up and get some of that TARP money to preserve the business entity here on BI!! Damn, we NEED that road down to the north end so that all those rental mopeds will have someplace to go to crash! That hot dog business down there will in all likelyhood have to go out of business if the Neck road is cut.

But then if it does cut the Island in two, I'm sure Interstate will jump right into that void and start a high speed ferry service from town to the neck! Heck a 4-5 second ferry ride shouldn't be to inconvenient. After all we are all hardy Islanders and are accustomed to adversity.

But seriously, if they want to hand out tons of money to every Thomas, Richard, and Harry, we will be more than willing to accept some of it as long as it doesn't come with Barney, or Teddy, or Big John, the Marine hating man, attached TIFN

If Bush had promised 48 hour advance posting of the same bill on the internet but only released it to the public two hours before congressional approval, wouldn't you have questioned his ethics?

If Bush's White House Staff had spent over $300,000 flying Air Force One low over New York (for a publicity photo fly-by) scaring the hell out Of the city's residents, wouldn't you have expected Bush to make the pictures public? Would you have approved? Obama won't give them up, but he saw fit to release the secret "torture memos".

If George W. Bush had been "addicted" to using a TelePrompTer, and seldom gave a speech without having one, would you have approved ? Would you think he was intelligent? Intelligent would have had one of your minions put one straight ahead to read once in a while. As it is, his head swings from right to left and back like Arlen Spector changes political parties!

If George W. Bush had pre-approved/pre-picked the list of reporters allowed to ask questions at his press conferences and refused to call on the correspondent from MSNBC (FOX with Obama), would you have approved? Is that a fair and balanced news conference?

If George W. Bush and a Republican Congress had given hundreds of millions of dollars to a group (the right-wing equivalent of ACORN) after its members had been convicted of voter registration fraud, would you approve of them to doing the 2010 Census, which will determine congressional districts for 10 years? Will you trust ACORN in 2010?

Would you have approved of George W. Bush moving the census from the Department of Commerce into the White House and putting his Chief of Staff in control of the counting?

In the aftermath of 9-11, if you knew George W. Bush prohibited the CIA from water boarding Islamic extremists who possessed information we needed to prevent attacks that could potentially killed millions of Americans, would you have approved?

Oddly enough, Barack Obama has committed all these faux pas in just 17 weeks

Busy Times

I have been neglecting this thing pretty badly for the last month or so. To damned many things going on and not enough time in the day to get it all done! Or so it seems.

Well lets see, a few weeks ago it was a rush to get the chicken coop done in time for the new arrivals. Went down to Brooklyn CT two weeks ago today and picked up 36, 18 week old RI Red chickens. After acclimating themselves to the new digs, they have rewarded me with my first dozen eggs over the last three days. Well, actually only 24 of them have been on watch. The other 12 went to a friend for whom I picked them up!

In the mean time, a couple of the older grand kids wigged me to the point of distraction so I up and ordered for them, from McMurray hatchery in Iowa,4 Red Frizzle Cochin's and 4 Buff Cochin's along with 18 Cornish X Rocks. These, the X Rocks are the birds that generously donate their used body parts to the deli counter down at the BIG. You know, those whole legs that look like they came off of a 50 lb turkey? Anyway we have been in the throes of raising these little cuties for one week today. They showed up as one day old's in the USP Office last Monday. The little Cochin's race around the pen like NASCAR drivers gone crazy! You know, go fast, turn left? Those X Rocks just sit in front of the feeder, literally SIT with their heads stuck in it and munch pretty much continuously! Once in a while time out for a drink of the special kick-a-poo juice I'm feeding them. In ten weeks or so they go into the freezer to show up on the table for Saturday night, or Sunday dinners!

The garden has finally dried out in enough places for the planting of selected things to go to ground. Onions and three kinds of spuds are in and plant tops are up about six inches. Just hilled them all up today for the next to last time. Peas, turnips, 4 kinds of lettuce, beets, carrots,tomatoes and peppers are all in and up and doing well, but only after I got halfway smart and wrapped some floating row cover around the peppers and tomatoes as they were all getting wind whipped pretty severely. Put in the pole beans yesterday along with 4 hills of Zucchini, and two of yellow crooknecks.(I don't like those little yellow bastards but Mama-san does so-oo-oo!) A nice big row of Cilantro and one of Cumin for all those Latino dinners we should be getting used to. Read about a trick for the tomatoes I hadn't heard of before. Drop a handful of crushed up fine egg shells in the bottom of the hole first and then the plant. It stops the blossom end rot for the most part because it, the end rot, is caused by calcium deficiency.

Spent about a week this winter sandblasting and painting my old 35 years, Kemp Hammer mill Shredder to get it ready for another 35 yrs of use. Well one hour into the first usage, ENGINE SEIZURE! It broke a ring and that was the end of that! New replacement engine came to about $300!! That was about half the cost of the shredder all those years ago. Can't complain though, it has been well used in the intervening time!

What else is going on? All kinds of crap from the O man that I cannot deal with anymore! I'll just leave it up too the future generations to see if they can ever recover from the damage that this one individual is doing to this country. Oh yeah, please don't forget about Petrified Pelosi's help and lies!

And on the local level, I see that we have two much more qualified personnel looking out for our welfare than the biologists etc. from the EPA! Not that I am very much enamoured of that particular group, but one would tend to think that if so august a body should declare a particular herbicide to be safe when used as directed, then who are the locals with somewhat less ability to do the studies that preceded the EPA's declaration, to tell us that they are extremely dangerous to us all and prohibit the use of same? Smacks of demagoguery no?

I guess this is enough to get a few folks started on the usual round of put downs, so I'll be down in the cellar, "girding my loins" as it were to be ready to forestall all the slings and arrows. Actually I'm going to load a couple hundred rounds of super hot .45 ACP!!

For the life of me I cannot figure out why they reversed the usage of the two new parking lots. Can someone give me a rational explanation for why it was done like this? I haven't been taking care of business here cause I've been busy getting the inside of the house back in shape after replacing every window in the place and giving it a completely new sheathing look. Hardee board and Azek trim on the outside and lots of elbow grease on the inside and it is still not done! Still have a set of steps or two to go on the outside and some sort of small decking to put the garbage cans on.
Well, that picture is NOT the house, but the one that we renovated with all the left over house siding and trim.

I'm going to have about 36-48 new residents living in there and I don't mean any illegal aliens! This one is called "Chez Galena" in honor of the Red Ladies from Rhode Island. That would be chickens of the breed RI Reds for all you folks not indoctrinated into chicken lore. Man I'm going to have the snootiest birds in captivity! The beds inside,(nests) are even made of leftover Azek pieces! The full length window in the door, and the door, is a recycle from the greenhouse!

Now it is time to get the fence put up to keep the little pesties out. That would be stray dogs, coyotes, little kids, and hungry humans with larceny on their minds! Then it is time to get going on the garden! See ya in the not to far away future, I hope. TIFN

Well it has been a month since the last post, and that particular turkey didn't garner much interest. Or if it was only those in education who read it, they knew when to keep quiet!

So in regards to the header, It was back in 1975 that I took the money that I had been putting into a retirement fund and got it put in a 401k account. The amount of dollars at the time was about $65K. That was a hell of a lot of money then as well as now. Over the intervening 34 years I have watched it go as high as $237k and I figured that my four kids would have a nice little nest egg to divide up after I had gone to the big "Hangar in the Sky". Well then along came the dot com bust and there went a little over one half of it. Over the last few years due to a lot of reasons that I'm not smart enough to figure out, it has finally dropped to a figure somewhat less than the amount I originally started with! Pretty soon as it finally gets to zero, I wonder if they, the Vanguard group, are going to have the balls to call and ask if I will be putting in the highest amount allowed this year. I think it is $3k. Well I'm pretty sure that I WILL BE getting a call from the big O telling me that I had better make my annual contribution or else! He needs the money I keep giving away so that he can hand it over too some lazy SOB hanging around on a street corner in Chi town or Detroit selling drugs to his "friends and relations"!

Oh did I say something politically incorrect? Silly me. Tough! I'm sick and tired of all the pussy footing around. The guy is a complete dip shit! I see now that he is telling everyone that ALL the problems were caused by GWB and he just inherited them. Well if he keeps on believing that his presidency is going to tank just about the same time as my non-existent "retirement fund". Does this ass KNOW ANYTHING about economics? I sure don't but all those people who do just keep right on saying this stimulus bullshit, err, make that "pelosi" instead of bull ****, is not going to work. As proof we all watched as the stock market fell below the 7k mark yesterday. Even me with my little pea brain has figured out that is not good. But The O thinks it is good as it will eventually be the death of the free market system and the beginning of the "Elites of America's" new order of Socialism that they have been so assiduously working towards for the last 50 years or more.

I think I'll go strangle a chicken and have it for dinner. Maybe I'll make believe it is a guinea hen and release some of my pent up emotions. TIFN

Time to raise hell here on BI

How long is it going to be before our education gets back to doing what it was originally set up to do? You know, teaching the kids how to read and write. I am talking here about penmanship. I can't read any of my grand children's writing! Well to be honest, mine is not so great either. But none of them use cursive. It is all printing! When the cursive looking letters are used, they are not connected together! It is a bunch of mostly unrelated letters marching across the page.

What ever happened to the the math programs where you learned the times tables, and how to do long division, subtraction et al? Now they teach them to use their fingers in various configurations as some kind of "digital" computers. After learning all these varied "new age" means of computation, they find it doesn't work so good in real life, and I am asked to help with a problem. Their reasoning process is so far removed from mine that I am useless as a tutor of this new crap, and I try to show them the way I was taught and which has served me well for 70+ years. Admittedly, I have to take my shoes off now and then when the numbers get above ten.

Most of the kids have no concept of money except on how to spend it to get more ipods and blueteeth and satellite radios. Where does money come from? Where can I get some other than Mom and Dad? You mean they have to GIVE money to someone for all this stuff we are eating and the clothes I've got? Damn, I thought it just appeared if I wigged and whined long and loud enough!

Science? What is that? Geography? Now there is an UNKNOWN AND FORGOTTEN subject! Kids 14 and 15 have NO IDEA where most countries are located in the world! Half of them are not really sure where Canada or Mexico is located!! Iraq? Iran? Isn't that over there in Europe some where close to Costa Rica or Brazil?

It is time for the teaching profession to go back to doing what they were supposedly trained to do, and lay off the self esteem classes and making sure the kids are "in touch" with themselves and their "peers". Peers? when I was a kid the only peers I knew anything about were spelled a little differently and had a lot of water all around them!

Teach the kids how to balance a check book instead of handing them a credit or debit card. Show them on a big-assed map just where they are located, and where other countries are located before you try to indoctrinate them in to trying to eradicate all the known problems of the known world at 8-18 years old! Let them discover and absorb all that esoteric information when they are really old enough to give a rats ass about it! Grade and High school is not the time for that stuff.

We fill our kids heads with a lot of crap that they really don't need to know, at way to young an age, and I really believe it gives many of them hang ups of all sorts!
Teach them how to survive day to day, and after they graduate you may send them off to a nice Liberal college where they will become totally brainwashed into the wonderful attributes of Socialism. Come to think of it, that may be just the thing to do to insure their well being as this country is well on its way to that form of government with the Obamamiester at the helm!

Oh hell, forget all that stuff I wrote above and just practice bending over and kissing your ass goodbye!! TIFN

What Now?

So the Obomamessiah is now installed in office and holds all of our lives, dreams, and hopes for our kids in his and the Pelosi/Reid/Dodd/Frank/Schumer cabals hands. So what's the outlook for all of we little Joe the Plumber types? I have no idea what the hell is going to happen to us all here on BI. The way everyone talks, the economy is going to deteriorate even more over the next year or more. So what are we who live on an Island whose sole reason to exist is predicated on the premise of catering to people who have lots of cash they want to spend? Or at least that is my perception of what has been going on for the last 30 years! My business, the ferry, every shop owner and restaurant, every single construction worker/owner,we are all here for one reason. Does anyone in their right mind think that we could sustain the annual budget we have incurred based solely on the income that would be generated by our people if there were no "tourists" to come and feed our coffers? What industry of any sort is there here on BI that could generate that sort of taxable income? The answer is ZERO! Fishing is dead and gone for the foreseeable future, and "Forward looking" entities in power want to limit even more so that only the large corporations would be able to field a fleet of boats. Farming? Who has the land to do that anymore on a viable basis? Who is going to buy the produce of that farm? Where are they going to get the money?

Maybe by the end of this coming summer there will be some telling indications of just how bad it is going to be. But I tell you I am NOT optimistic about the future of this Island as a viable community! It seems to me that one whole hell of a lot of these McMansions that have been built, or are being built on the money all those 'smart' banking investors made are going to start defaulting on their loans unless they were all paid for with cash right from the beginning! I just can't seem to swallow the fact that only the well monied folks who chose to buy and built out here will be exempt from all the problems now being incurred. I just can't believe that ONLY these folks who came here, were astute enough not to be embroiled with these loser banks!

I asked a real estate broker the other day, facetiously, how the rentals for the coming summer were progressing? What he said kind of astounded me! He told me, I know not whether truthfully or not, that his firm only had a couple of places that were not totally rented for the entire summer! I just found that hard to swallow, and didn't know what to say except that I hoped that the same was true of all his peers rentals. I just kind of find it really hard to believe that the people are still going to be coming in the numbers of the previous years when all around us hundreds and thousands of workers are losing their jobs as big name companies are closing their doors and going out of business!! All these folks with NO JOBS are going to have the disposable income to come over here on the boat and buy $5 hot dogs and $8 dollar hamburgers? NOT!

I continue to see only slowly increasing gloom and doom until all these wonderful leaders and officials who got us into this mess turn the tide and reverse the trend. And THAT is not going to happen! It was these Idiots, Frank and Dodd, who had oversight of the two committees that were supposed to keep a tight rein on the banking community, instead completely released their hold on them and in fact encouraged and demanded that they go ahead with their ruinous plans to let every person who wanted a house could have one, even those with NO ABILITY to pay for the damned thing! All so that they, the Idiots could stand there and say, "look at us, we are doing great things for the 'little guy'! Well thanks a lot assholes! We all notice that you ran and hid under a rock when the shit hit the fan, and there you cower to this day, denying any culpability in the mess we are in! Yes we know your mantra by heart, "BUSH DID IT"!

So here we are on our little rock, up to our necks in poo while we wait for the Pink Unicorns farting stacks of cash to arrive from the Obama cabal! (I stole that line). Well I'm waiting but not holding my breath. In the meantime, I'm planting a big arsed garden and sharpening up my shooting skills in anticipation of depleting the deer herd next winter to feed my family! We are not going to see the end of this disaster for years I do believe. Hows it going with all you folks out there? TIFN

Salty Streets! --- and the Sacrosanct Aquifer?

After all the screaming and bitching about the Sprague gravel pit and how it is going to destroy the Islands aquifer by leaching contaminants into it from just regular old dirt, cement residue, asphalt etc., I was truly amazed to see a huge pile of ROAD SALT stored in the State garage!! How the hell do you justify that, when it seems to be a problem for every other community in this State and others, where roads and highways travel close to their aquifers? 'Splain that to me. I'm very dense! All those people who have condemned the Pit operation for it's NOT VERY LIKELY pollution of the ground water, should be jumping out of their skins in outrage at this total disregard for something that is KNOWN to do damage to a water supply! Where's the outrage here! Could it be that their condemnation of the pit operation is just because of their perceived notion that their property is now worth less than when they bought it? When it was sitting right next to an already operative business? A little bit of selective denigration here if you ask me.

So back too the salt. Ever since there have been motor vehicles on BI, sand has always been the go to device to keep the roads somewhat less slippery and with pretty good effect over that time. I do believe that back in the late fifties,early sixties, salt was tried for a year or two and then was disregarded as a permanent solution for our roads. Somebody back then was pretty smart for whatever reasons.

So come on Town Council, What is the reason behind the use of salt now when sand works nearly as well, and actually, perfectly for this less traveled community? Especially since the advent of the dive in the economy. Shouldn't we be saving as many dollars as possible to spend on really important things like fences and lights for the airport? TIFN

That is a close approximation of the name of a blood sucker who advertises on the tube relentlessly! I know everyone has seen some of his disgusting ads. The one that drives me up the wall is, "When Doctors make mistakes, I make them pay'! This guy is a true representation of all that is wrong with this countries legal system. Is there some piece of paper that a Doctor gets when he finally finishes all his training that says,"I will not ever, ever, ever, make a mistake on pain of death or worse, legal harassment"? I know of not one person who is totally infallible! ( Sorry all you "O" fans). So people like this just continue to scare young people away from the medical profession. Who would want to go into a job field where there are hundreds of thousands of vultures hanging over your head just waiting in order to pick your bones clean if you happen to incorrectly diagnose even a minor problem? Probably one brought on by your own misguided life style.

It is people like this ambulance chasing bum that are responsible for a lot of the woes of this Republic. Who is it that writes most of the laws of this land? I do believe most of the folks in congress are lawyers of some sort or other.

WSo how do you rectify that little problem? I know! Write a law that prohibits lawyers from becoming Senators or Congress critters! Damn, that isn't going to work, none of them there now has the integrity to vote for such a thing! We're Screwed!! TIFN

Street Lights on BI

Do we really need all the street lights burning away all night long? Most people are home in bed or at least undercover for the most part after midnight. Well, I know there are some night owls who are out roaming all night, but I really don't think we need all the lites going all night!

People back in the days when I was a yo'un managed to get from place to place in the dark without all kinds of lamps to light the way. Granted there were a few lights around, and we usually ran "hell bent for election" from one pool of light to the next! You know, those ghosties and vampires don't like the light so we thought we were safe. It was a long way between most of them though.

In this time of lost jobs and higher prices for virtually everything, it seems to me to be the ultimate folly to be spending $40,000 a year, burning that old fossil fuel, so that the nocturnal roamers, beasties, bugs, and bumbling homo-sapiens can see where they are going. Isn't that what flashlights and headlights are for?

So too the Town Council and Manager I say, "Turn off those lights on the streets and at the town hall, the school, and every other muni building in the town"! And we should also as individuals dump the outside lights on our houses as soon as all are on board for the night! To add insult to injury, they have just finished installing about a dozen huge lights up at the airport which I hope, will NOT be left burning throughout the night waiting to guide some lost wanderer into its luminous arms. It is an unconscionable waste!! And besides, when those street lights are out, I have a much better view of the night sky! Ursa Major is getting unruly! TIFN

Well now is time to stop blaming either GWB or O for the dire straits we now find ourselves in. If I read my history correctly, we started on the slippery slope when we refuted the Bretton accords I believe it was called and went off the gold standard. That was where all nations paid their debts to the others in gold bullion when asked to. Well we can't do that anymore and haven't been able to for decades! We have nothing behind our money anymore but the trees that they, Congress, turns into paper and then keeps on printing worthless money!

The chickens are on their way home to roost and I hope you all are going to be able to feed yourselves in the coming years. Especially after the O man and his minions go on their huge tax and spend bender. They want us to go right back to all the failed, or absymally expensive social programs instituted by their predecessors that have put us where we are now. Katie Couric should become the Treasurer of the US and do it for free! She has been gushing over the omessiah for two years without ever having the thought occur to her that SHE is in the moronic group who her hero is going to gut! Or could it be that ALL THOSE DEMOCRATIC MILLIONAIRES in the congress have already hidden away their money or had those tax lawyers do things with the numbers so they are going to continue to pay 'Their fair share' of the tax burden? And TRY and remember this, The President can PROPOSE all kinds of thing's and crazy acts, but it is all those 535 people with their hands deep into your pockets that do the actual voting and instituting of said proposals!!! He THEN signs his name too the bill, thereby cementing in everyones mind that he did this all by himself! Yeah, gimme a break from all the whining when you get caught with your hand in the till!!

"How can you vote Republican when they so messed up the economy?" a liberal
friend screams at me with such vehemence that I had to put the phone a full
arms length from my ear.

Of course, my friend never heard of the Community Reinvestment Act. He is
one of those mindless liberals who thinks that George Bush and the
Republicans are responsible for everything from Global Warming to Hurricane
Katrina to the attempted genocide of the entire black population of New
Orleans.

He claims to be informed but he doesn't remember those dire warnings going
back nine years ago that the Community Reinvestment Act would eventually
cause a major financial and banking crisis in this country.
The Community Reinvestment Act was pushed hard by Bill Clinton, although it
originated under Jimmy Carter. Asked about it the other day on one of the
morning TV talk shows, Clinton said times back then were different. Fannie
and Freddie had lots of money and he (in his infinite wisdom) decided that
the money should not go to share holders or to executive compensation, but
should be used to put the poor into homes.

As you can imagine, wonderful things happen when the government strong arms
corporations as to how they should spend their money and, better yet, how
they should assess the qualifications of home buyers. So the country's
biggest buyers of mortgages were pressured into lowering the qualifications
of applicants, in order to increase the percentage of poor that got
mortgages. By 2006, 30% of all mortgages went to people who in any other
circumstances wouldn't qualify.

Now the political left would like you to know that the CRA-controlled
institutions did not lend the largest percentage of sub-prime mortgages. But
that's information by deception, because the mortgage business is a
competitive business. If the government strong arms one part of the
business, the other part will respond. And strong arm was what the Clinton
administration did, even using the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency
to pressure banks to lend more money to the disadvantaged. Caught in the
act, a spokesman for the office noted that its abuse of power was "for the
best of intentions:" the same inclination used to pave the road to hell.
In the short run, all sorts of money was to be made by lowering standards
and processing sub-prime loans for the poor. The Wall Street Journal raised
concerns about Fannie's and Freddie's capital requirements. Senator Phil
Gramm (R, TX) raised issues about community pressure groups, such as Barack
Obama's ACORN, extorting money from banks by holding their feet to the CRA
fire, and threatening to militate against mergers and acquisitions unless
the banks entered into preferential agreements with community groups.

The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act cut down on CRA reporting requirements and upped
the ante for groups such as ACORN, forcing them to disclose their
relationships with local banks.

Fannie and Freddie became big contributors to the Democratic Party. The
sub-prime business paid off-at least while the bubble was growing. And the
Kerry, Hillary and Obama campaigns have numbered among the leading
recipients of the largess of the two mortgage lenders.
Franklin Raines, the Fannie Mae C.E.O. from 1999 to 2004, had been budget
director in the Clinton administration. The left would not like you to be
reminded that Raines has been a consultant to the Obama campaign, according
to the Washington Post, and that Freddie and Fannie number among the top 5
contributors to Obama's run for the presidency. Raines is being sued for
the recovery of 50 million in compensation acquired by the alleged
manipulation of Fannie's books. Now, that's not change we can believe in.
That's Washington as we have come to know and "love" it.

The Bush administration in 2003 tried to change the system, to no avail.
Congressman Barney Frank, (D, MA ) was in the forefront of stopping the Bush
proposal to take control out of Fannie and Freddie and put it into a third
overseeing organization. Frank too has emerged in the current crisis as one
of the major critics of the administration.

Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan continued to raise the alarm
over Fannie's and Freddie's weak capitalization. His concerns were ignored.
Former Congressman Michael Oxley (R,OH), then chairman of the House
Financial Services Committee and co-author of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act,
introduced a bill in 2005 in response to the growing problem, but Fannie and
Freddie put their lobbyists to work and the bill died
Democratic Senator Chris Dodd, who is now Chairman of the Banking Committee
and who appears alongside Majority Leader Harry Reid on television to
discuss the current bailout negotiations, has had harsh words for the Bush
administration for its alleged role in the crisis.

But the rest of us should have some harsh words for Senator Dodd. After
all, the Bush administration in 2003 and Senator Phil Gramm even earlier, in
1999, had been working to change the system. Dodd, like Obama, has been a
big recipient of campaign funds from Fannie and Freddie, organizations that
Dodd oversees. Dodd has apparently been more consumed with campaign
contributions from the mortgage giants than the responsibilities of
oversight.

When I point out the long trail of Obama's corruption stretching back to
his days in the Illinois legislature, my liberal friends invoke moral
equivalence, "They're all corrupt."
There is no shame among the left. When they think Bush is responsible for
the collapse of the banking system, they scream at you. When you point out
that the Community Reinvestment Act created a pattern of abuse that now
threatens the entire financial system, without hesitation liberals say,
"They're all corrupt."

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation even has a web site so you could
see how well your bank is meeting its obligations under the CRA. Those of
you who had money in Washington Mutual, which just went belly up, will be
happy to know that WaMu, over the five individual reporting periods, had
almost exemplary ratings on its commitment to CRA. That should give WaMu
depositors great joy, to compensate for the financial mess they may be in.
If WaMu had been less responsive to the CRA and more responsive to the
market, maybe it wouldn't be insolvent.

I am not suggesting that the CRA by itself led to the current crisis, but
the CRA was the first and most important part of the food chain. The CRA
caused the expansion in the number of questionable loans that lending
institutions made, but Wall Street and insurance underwriters were all too
willing to package these loans, enhance their ratings through convenient
exercises in fantasy, sell them, and insure them with reserves that were
more inadequate than the incomes of the people who got the loans in the
first place..

The best thing that can emerge from the current financial crisis is the
realization that the government needs to stop directing economic decision
making. In a sense, the government is putting out a fire it started when it
both created the CRA and assessed lending institutions by how well they were
doing in response to the program. When Clinton decided, in his usual
arrogance, that he knew better than the market how banks should lend money,
the seeds were sown for the current financial disaster.

If you want to blame Bush for the current crisis, it might make you feel
good, reinforce your sense of how the world works, enable you to find a
meeting of the minds when you next engage your liberal friends over wine and
quiche, but like so many things you believe and which make you feel good, it
has no correspondence to reality.

What the Hell is wrong with Obamessiah?

In a time when every single THINKING person is getting very worried about their finances and just where the wall street fiasco is going, along cones "The One" and goes on and on during the debate about INCREASING funding for government funded pre schools! Apparently he also believes that once he gets us out of that foreign war, he'll be able to take that 10 billion per month and pour it back into more of the type of schools, foundations and other way far left Socialistic contrivances like those he and his buddy Bill Ayers used the Annenburg money for! I seem to recall it being about 160 million. This country is going to take a hard left turn next month if this guy gets elected. It may be one that we will never recover from! I am glad that I most probably will not be here to watch my kids and grand kids having to survive under the rule of a truly Socialistic government! Do ANY of these people who are so enamoured of Obama not recall the era after WWII? Are they all so detached from the events of the past that they cannot or will not see what Russia, East Germany, Poland, etc. went through for the last fifty years before Socialism/Communism went bust in those countries? Do they not know of ALL the "personal freedoms" we so enjoy, were unavailable to those millions of people?

Socialism ONLY WORKS for the big dogs on the top of the pile who get there on the backs of all the little people! So go on worshiping this guy and empowering he and his minions, NancyP., Harry R. etc. to slowly take away all the freedoms you enjoy today. Let THEM be the ones who will tell you when and where you can go see a doctor, (you will probably have to be on a 'LIST' to get an appointment, wrong political leanings? no visit for you!), They will tell you where to work, when to eat, WHAT to eat. Why, most probably, even when to go to the bathroom!!

McCain may be old, he may be eccentric, he may not last the full four years if he does get elected, but HE WILL NOT TAKE AWAY ANY OF YOUR FREEDOMS! And if he does croak, what you get next will be a thousand times better than 'Palagarizing Joe Biden, The biggest liar in congress'! And think about this, how about all the previous Govenors of States that became President, and for the most part did pretty well! Maybe strike Billy from that list.

So go vote in November, but just do a little READING in the interim, both sides of the issues, try to weed out the bullshit, tough to do, and then vote for the person who has the tools, HONESTY, integrity, and the VERY BEST INTERESTS of this country in his heart! Not just the desire to get to the top of the heap on your back!! TIFN

As I cannot seem to be able to figure out how to link to another blog, I have COPIED the below text from another bloggers site. It is called, "Home on the range". You can find it, and it is always a wonderful read. The below is an essay she just wrote recently and needs to be read by every single person in this country! Even those rabid Obama supporters. It will show you and them why dividing up the pie without making it bigger ain't going to work. And so:

Yes, I lured you in here thinking you'd see a piece of home made pie, but what I have to write tonight is personal, and it pertains to the election, and the future of our great country. If you've had your fill of political blogs and the news, come back in a day or two for something lighter. But sometimes there are things I have to say, even if only I read it.

"Most Americans don’t want much. They don’t want the whole pie. There are some who do, but most Americans feel blessed just being able to thrive a little bit. But that is becoming even more out of reach. The truth is, in order to get things like universal health care and a revamped education system, then someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more." - Michelle Obama

Let's all work harder to share the wealth with our less able brothers Michelle believes, while wearing a $900 suit. I too ponder on such sentiments, usually when I've re-read Atlas Shrugged, a book perhaps meant to be historical but becoming more prophetic.

The present state of our nation, the political events, and ideals of today are so grotesquely irrational and so disturbingly true to the base points of the book, that it can't be anything else.

If any of you haven't read Atlas Shrugged it is a book written decades ago that shows what happens to the world when the men of the mind - the originators and the innovators in every line of rational endeavor - go on strike and vanish, to protest again an altruist-collectivist Society, what our generation more popularly calls "the nanny state".

There are two key passages in the book that sum it up well. The first is a statement of John Galt:
"There is one kind of man who have never been on strike in human history. Every other kind and class have stopped, when they so wished and have presented demands to the world claiming to be indispensable - except the men who have carried the world on their shoulders, have kept it alive, have endured torture as sole payment, but have never walked out on the human race. Well their turn has come. Let the world discover who they are, what they do, and what happens they they refuse to function. This is the strike of the men of the mind, Miss Tagger. This is the mind on strike."

The second passage, which explains the title of the novel is:

"Mr. Rearden, said Francisco, his voice solemnly calm, "if you saw Atlas, the giant who holds the world on his shoulders, if you saw that he stood, blood running down his chest, his knees buckling, his arms trembling but still trying to hold the world aloft with the last of his strength, and the greater his effort the heavier the world bore down upon his shoulders, what you you tell him to do?"

"I. . . I don't know. what . could he do" What would you tell him?"

"To shrug".

My work has value. My mind has value. I won't do it for free. those that do that, are amateurs (coming from the Latin amator - meaning lover), not professionals. As a professional I expect to be paid. Nor will I do it to pay the rent and gas and food of those who aren't willing to put forth their own effort to the best of their own ability. A hard working person, down on their luck, I will help in many ways. I've added to the tip jar of many a hard working blogger, caught up in exploding cars, dysfunctional pets, and bad experiences with Comcast. I've helped people in my community, neighbors, suddenly and through no fault of their own, out of a job, with food and/or child care while they went to an interview; with assistance with crafting a new resume and getting them some job contacts. Helping those that actively worked to help themselves.

But do not ask me to support, through work or taxes or even my time, which has value of it's own, a class of people who only wish to take, because they feel they are owed it for breathing, for crossing the border illegally, or for being a specific race, creed or religion.

Now Mrs. Obama and her party say that the "rest of us" will have to give up a little more so there can be more for those that "don't have". I was getting a hair cut while out of town and the person cutting said she was voting for Obama because then she'd have "free day car for my kids and free health care for my kids". (she had multiple kids with various fathers I gathered from the pictures and her conversation). I replied "great. . now who is going to PAY for that day care and health care?"

She looked puzzled.

I replied "I AM. So that will mean I won't get a $50 haircut, I'll get a $11 haircut somewhere else, and less often, and forget the highlights and all the rest, I won't be able to afford it any more with the increase in my taxes. So will most of your customers. So you'll make half the money and won't have money for gas to work. But Obama will get you free health care. Good luck on the eating thing"

She failed to note the irony and as she had a pair of shears pointed at my head I felt it prudent not to expound any longer.

As this election looms, we are in a struggle between capitalism and socialism attractively packaged as "change". With someone and their supporting party, talking of controls and "sacrifices", taxes, and coercions they would impose, what arbitrary powers they would enact, what "social remedies" they would hand out, without really telling us, the American people, what groups these gains would be expropriated. What they do imply, though with their vague promises of health care, and free education and free this and free that, is clear. That is, with the help of increased taxes and more from the pockets of the working classes, their power over a nation's economy, any kind or degree of said power, rests on the basic principal of statism, the principal that the working man's life belongs to the state.

Obama talks about Change. Obama talks about freedom. Freedom in the political sense means freedom from government coercion. It does NOT mean freedom from an employer, from a landlord, freedom from the laws of supply and demand, or freedom from the laws of nature. Laws which do not guarantee prosperity to every man.

It means freedom from the coercive power of the state. Freedom to use your abilities the best you can to craft a life for yourself to the best of your ability. It means freedom to protect that which you have earned, from other people, in a manner that's true to the Constitution that founded this country. It means freedom to own a weapon responsibly. Certainly if Obama and Biden have their way, I wouldn't own a gun, making it even easier for someone to take what I have at the point of theirs, be it literal or figuratively.

The American political system was not based on "sharing the pie". It was based on a moral principal that defined what made America great; on the principal of man's inalienable right to his own life - meaning, the principal that man has the right to exist for his own sake. Not sacrificing himself or his or her family to others nor sacrificing others to himself. Social interactions are not done by handouts but by trading, men dealing with others as traders, by voluntary choices to mutual benefit.

The American economy, was not built up by "sharing". What is unique in America is we were the first to use the phrase "to make money", no other language has that phrase used in that manner, in history, men had always thought of riches as a static quality to be seized, begged inherited, shared or looted, or obtained as a favor. Americans were the first to truly grasp that wealth has to be created. Created with the efforts of individuals, who improved our world through hard work, and effort and earned money from it as a byproduct.

What this "change" appears to me to be is a social system based on the "nanny state", an altruist society, with it's code of self sacrifice, rather than the building of individual wealth, the antithesis of capitalism. It is socialism, which, in all it's mutated forms, fascism, Nazism, Communism, treats us as a sacrificial animal to be plundered for the benefit of the group, the tribe, the state. The final product of which would be a country in which the best and the brightest put down their thinking caps, and let their talents languish, as they derive no personal benefit from it.

A society in which, after giving and giving, so that all have a "piece of the pie", the best and the brightest, as well as the hardest working, will finally shrug.

Now it is me again talking, Everett. I did read Atlas Shrugged when I was 18-19 years old and sitting in a frozen Quonset hut at the bottom of the world for 7 months. At that time in my life I was NOT a very good judge nor participant in life, only a few short years had elapsed. In the intervening 50 years, I had again read the book and it is where I developed my sense of Conservatism as opposed to the Socialistic, Way Left, Nanny state contrivance that professes to be our "government"! We had best look out who we vote for this time around because if it is Obama the only "change" you are going to see besides higher taxes and more give away programs, is the few coins left in your pocket! BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID!!! TIFN

Well those are the pictures that I couldn't figure out how to get on here, so I just took pictures of the picture an here they are, I hope! Right now I see nothing but a bunch of letters and numbers.
Mr. chicken anonymouse: This is the last anyone will see of your comments. On the good advice of some very smart friends, I refuse to enable you to continue to spew your invective here. If you care to clean up your thought processes, and post as someone with a real name, even if it is phony, you will be able to as long as you can be civil to all concerned. These pictures were taken back in the late 1930's and early forties,easily discernible by the cars up on the road. Nothing here is "photo shopped" or touched up in anyway as I don't have the technical smarts or the equipment or the desire to try and fool a fool!

These were supposed to come through with the others, but didn't!
I had put captions on each picture but they didn't come through either. As you can see, there is a hell of a lot more beach in these pictures than there is down there right now. In the one looking north down the Neck Road, you can see the old original beach house that got taken out by Hurricane Carol in 1954. And a hell of a lot more dune and beach grass than there is at present.
"Two or three more paths"? Pull your head out of your ass next ime you go down there and count them. Or is that the problem? Can't count any higher than 3?
The ones with the horse and cart show that the beach extended way out there, or else that horse is a "Jesus" horse and is able to walk on water! And tow a cart full of seaweed at the same time!

Beach/Road Redux --- Again!

Well I'm sure this post will drag that guy who knows all about the beaches here on BI out of the woodwork to vilify and castigate me on my poor memory! Oh well, here goes.

Have you all perchance been down the Neck Road anytime in the last month or so? Have you happened to notice that the road to the north of the Trustum Dodge monument is now located practically ON the beach? I'm not talking about the beach right in front of the monument, but too the left when viewed from the road. If you stop and get out of your car to look, you will see the the minuscule bit of beach that used to be there is now gone! Imagine that! I wonder where it went? At anytime except dead low tide, the water is right up there next to the road! Got any predictions as to what is going to happen when the next good Nor'easter hit us?

And while you are there go slowly down the Neck Road and count all the NEW little paths that have been opened up this summer by the visiting populace! They climb over the dunes in new places while no more than ten steps away is one of the older more established paths!

I would like to know why NO TOWN COUNCIL in the last twenty years has taken it on themselves to DO something about the problem of people on the dunes!! The problem is NOT GOING TO STOP until drastic measures are taken to stop it and a FEW designated spots are maintained for access to the beach. If you can't see that there is a problem now, then your head is located in a place where the sun never shines and it smells really bad!

So Mr and Mrs Council Person, if you can't figure out what to do all on your own, send a letter or an email, or better yet, an emissary to one of the other beach front communities in RI or even on over to Nantucket or Martha's Vine Yard to see how they deal with the problem!

With all the fiscal woes of this State, when the inevitable comes to pass and the road is washed out just like Spring Street was in 1991 I believe it was, They will probably tell us to go "pound sand" as it were, because there is no money to fix that road. Has anybody down there in the town hall ever heard the term, "proactive" as opposed to "reactive"? I know I am pissing up a stump and NOTHING WILL BE DONE, but I feel better now! TIFN

Guns for kids!

Well my brandy new Sig Sauer Mosquito .22 cal arrived today and what a sweet little piece it is. It is threaded on the front end of the barrel. Gee, I wonder whatever that is for:)? It was bought along with a couple thousand rounds of ammo to begin teaching my three preteen granddaughters and two grandsons how to use a handgun properly. Granddaughter number 4 will have to wait a few years, she is only 18 monnth's old.

After a little "classroom indoctrination" in the cellar, at the reloading bench, into the finer points of gun handling and where and how to point it, and most importantly, why and when to point it, we will then move on to how to disassemble, clean, and reassemble the weapon. If you can't do those simple tasks,safely and efficiently, you have no reason to be handling and shooting these things. As we all know, there are too many incidents of accidental shootings because of unfamiliarity with any weapon, be it pistol, shotgun, rifle or even a six inch blade!

Then when they are comfortable with these rote actions we will move on to the actual shooting of the piece. We have no shooting range out here on the Island, so we have to resort to using the bottom of a sand pit with a nice soft hill side to absorb the hot lead. Also being down there in the bottom, hopefully any errant shot that might hit a bigger piece of rock will be deflected into the side gravel banks. Hopefully after a few boxes of rounds they will be on the road to proficiency with this weapon. Then we will move on up to his, Mosquitos, big brother, Mr. Sig Model 1911 S/S .45 cal.!

I can hear the comments pouring in now, and most of them in the negative vein. Like why would you want those kids to know how to shoot a gun? What if they hurt someone with it? Oh God, are they going to bring it too school? Girls don't NEED to know how to use a gun! Oh yeah? They need to know how to use one a lot more than the boys! How many stories do you see on the TV or the radio every day about someone abducting a young girl or teenager? How many of them are ever found alive and unharmed? Other than Elizabeth Smart, not to many of them. So don't be so damned fearful of every person who has a gun on their person. If he/she is a law abiding person, you'll never know they had it. If it is criminal with one, every one will know he has it after he uses it to gain whatever had taken his fancy at the moment! Maybe your life! A lot of the kooks have absolutely no regard for any human life much less yours! So maybe that good guy over in the corner watching this unfold will take action with his concealed weapon and save yours, as well as other lives!

So I am going to give my girls and boys the mental tools as well as the physical ones needed to protect themselves and their loved ones when it comes right down to it. For all you know, I could have a concealed carry weapon stuck in the back of my pants and you'd never know it. But it would be there if the time ever came when it needed to be deployed. The right to own, use, and carry a weapon isn't worth a rats ass if it is locked up in a gun safe at home with a cable through the trigger guard and the ammo in the basement in another locked box! It has to be where it is going to be accessible when the pooh hits the rotating airfoil! That old robber dude isn't going to wait for you to run and get your piece and get it loaded so you can scare him off before he blows your ass away! And don't be too complacent just because of where we live. All kinds of weird folks come visiting out here. Just look at all the NY license plates!TIC!!! TIFN

Education In America!

I am sitting here reading some of my favorite blogs, and in the background my wife has the TV going and is watching the program, "Are you smarter than a Fifth Grader?". The contestant is a High School Biology teacher who had been recently voted as the, "Teacher of the Year" in his State. Sitting in the audience with his parents, is the Principal of the school where he teaches. He appeared to be "thirty something" in age. The Principal looked to be in her early fifties. He is going for a $175,000.00 dollar question. And that Question was: "Canberra is the Capitol of what Country"?

Well after he hemmed and hawed for a few minutes he came up with the answer of, Uzbekistan! Now I'm screaming at the TV and calling this guy every derogatory name I can think of! And he goes with that answer. Then they turn to the kid who has written an answer down in secret and ask her, a fifth grader the same question. She wrote the correct answer of Australia, but they haven't revealed to all of us whether the guy is right or if she is. They they turn to the Principal sitting there and ask her if Australia is the right answer. To my complete amazement and total chagrin, she looks at the camera and says, "No, it sure isn't Australia"!

After I pried myself off the ceiling and wiped all the spit off my face and chest, I sat here in total denial that two people from the same school system could be that stupid! Or maybe not! Could it be that it is the fault of the good ole system of education in this country has been going down the tubes for the last 50 years, and that this is one instance of the culmination of the process? After years of teaching kids to have self esteem, and to be politically correct, don't touch the girls in your class, don't you dare to bring a pocket knife to school little boy, don't spit on the sidewalk, that they have completely forgotten to teach the kids anything of any real value in their 13 years in school?

It is high time for this country to get back to the basics of education FIRST, and then move on to all that esoteric bullshit when they are old enough to understand what it is all about.

Update: Latest contestant has a "[{Masters degree In Education}]" and he DID NOT KNOW that Juneau Alaska was the furthest north state capital! He picked Bangor Maine!Duh! Isn't it Augusta? And the last question this genius blew was, "Who was the first person in 1953 to climb to the top of Mt Everest"? If any younger person than 35 doesn't know, it was Sir Edmund Hillary. I am just beside myself with despair!!! TIFN

A few 'minor' corrections to Obama's pronouncements... All verifiable via the net. Please feel free to add any that I missed, as I'm SURE this is not anywhere near a complete list!

1.) Selma Got Me Born - NOT EXACTLY, your parents felt safe enough to have you in 1961. Selma had no effect on your birth, as Selma was in 1965. (Google 'Obama Selma' for his full March 4, 2007 speech and articles about its various untruths.)

2.) Father Was A Goat Herder - NOT EXACTLY, he was a privileged, well educated youth, who went on to work with the Kenyan Government.

3.) Father Was A Proud Freedom Fighter - NOT EXACTLY, he was part of one of the most corrupt and violent governments Kenya has ever had.

4) My Family Has Strong Ties To African Freedom - NOT EXACTLY, your cousin Raila Odinga has created mass violence in attempting to overturn a legitimate election in 2007, in Kenya . It is the first widespread violence in decades. The current government is pro-American but Odinga wants to overthrow it and establish Muslim Sharia law. Your half-brother, Abongo Obama, is Odinga's follower. You interrupted your New Hampshire campaigning to speak to Odinga on the phone. The Main Stream Media strikes again!!

Does anybody out there except the rabid lefty loonies really believe ANYTHING the MSM professes to be true anymore? The following is a copy of a letter from a retired Major General of the Army to a local newspaper. I didn't see anything about copyrights or restrictions about passing this on, so will all you folks who can't wait to castigate me for my copy right infringements just hold your criticisms for a bit.
This was forwarded to me by a past, long time, (35 years) home owner on the Island. He is a very intelligent person and vets all things he passes to me if possible. So I do believe it, and post it herewith for your perusal! This just goes to show you how far they will go to get their messiah elected this fall.

And some still doubt there is flagrant bias afoot in the media...?.

This story is not so much about inaccuracy as it is about what Catholic
schoolboys used to whimsically refer to as “Jesuit half-truths”, i.e.,
withholding essential bits of information to induce gullible listeners or
readers to form wrong opinions….. or at best…..endorse slightly distorted
viewpoints.

Providing facts to allow the public to form objective opinions is what some

My niece, Katelyn, stationed at Baluud , Iraq was assigned, with others of
her detachment, to be escort/guard/ watcher for Martha Raddatz of ABC News
as she covered John McCain's recent trip to Iraq . Katelyn and her Captain
stood directly behind Raddatz as she queried GI's walking past. They kept
count of the GI's and you should remember these numbers. She asked 60 GI's
who they planned to vote for in November. 54 said John McCain, 4 for Obama
and 2 for Hillary. Katelyn called home and told her Mom and Dad to watch
ABC news the next night because she was standing directly behind Raddatz and
maybe they'd see her on TV. Mom and Dad of course, called and emailed all
the kinfolk to watch the newscast and maybe see Katelyn. Well, of course, we
all watched and what we saw wasn't a glimpse of Katelyn, but got a hell' uva
view of skewed news. After a dissertation on McCain's trip and speech, ABC
showed 5 GI's being asked by Raddatz how they were going to vote in
November; 3 for Obama and 2 for Clinton . No mention of the 54 for McCain.

Bottle bill

No, this isn't about that old guy who used to live around here and sucked on a bottle, make that a flask, of kick-a-poo joy juice all day.

When I was a kid around here many thousands of days ago, about the only way to make a few cents for spending money was to go digging around in the local trash heaps of which there were quite a few, for discarded bottles! As I recall there were only a few that were redeemable at the Seaside Market. All of the large ones, about a quart and a half that said Coca Cola, Clicquot Club, Spur, an a couple others were worth 5 cents each! In todays money that would be like getting about three or four bucks back for a bottle. The small coke bottles were worth 2 cents each!

As tight as money was around here back then, you DID NOT see too many of these little gems lying around on the side of the road! And if you did, you just considered yourself one lucky SOB for that day!

So here is the chance for the State of RI to finally get it right. Someone has again introduced a bottle bill in the legislature. Does it have a chance of passing? Who knows. Who actually knows why all the previous ones were shot down in flames. It is probably because one or more of our, "elected officials" has friends or family in the plastic bottle fabrication business and they don't want any competition from already made containers.

But just think of the benefits of a bottle bill. All the poor, indigent, laborers could go out and get rich and live the American dream! The sides of the roads would be forever free of this type of trash! And after two or three years, the landfill at Johnston would be reduced to a tiny mole hill of inconspicuious height after they had picked it clean of those returnable bottles! No more worries about that,"plastic bottle that will be in the landfill for CENTURIES"!

So we give kudos too the person who introd'ed the bill, and can only hope that our fearless leaders will see fit to join with them in bringing our deficient state from the backwaters of time and place, into the reality of today! Besides being good for the visual aspect of it all, after Obama gets in, we are all going to need a little extra income to get those two elusive ends to meet! TIFN

There is a word you are going to be hearing a lot about in the next five months! I was, oh what the hell, AM going to go off on a rant about how some people can be so oblivious to his coming policies if he gets elected, just because he is a black man! I guess they think that if he gets elected we, whitey, will be absolved of all our past transgressions against the black people. Is not going to happen folks. If he gets elected the first thing he is going to do is shove his hands so deep in your pockets you won't get him out for four years or more! All you old folks depending on SS? Stand by for cuts there. Bush's tax cuts? They will be gone in '10. Foreign Aid? He says he IS GOING to DOUBLE it!! Bet most of it goes to NK in the form of "food"!

Just where the hell does he think he is going to 'get' all this free money from? Think the twelve owners of the FED will print him up some more unbacked $$$? Bet your ass seeing as they are the ones who put him where he is!
This guy is so far out in left field, he is outside the foul pole! He is not even playing on the same field as the rest of us! Take a real good deep, in depth look at where he came from as a politician, and how he came to be where he is now. He is the end product of the Illinois good old boy political network. Greased every palm and dealt with every sleazy person in the network to arrive at his present station. Look at some of the people he is using for adviser's! Most of the are from the Slick Willie era, and a few were involved with mighty shady too black dealings,(murder-Vince Foster-remember him?) back then. This guy is a wolf, dressed in sheep's clothing, made solely out of charisma, rhetoric, and "baffle 'em with bull shit" talk, and he is going to eat us alive while turning this country into a second rate shithole!

I know that McCain is an old man by some people's standards, and if he dies in office, hopefully his VP will be someone who can carry on in his general vein. If BO gets in and has Hillary for a VP, and he was to bite the bullet, then we'd have her, and after her, Nancy Pelosi! What a god awful frightening thought to contemplate!

So get your money out of the banks if you have any in there, close out your IRA's and take the tax beating now. It will be less than when BO is on board. Start hoarding whatever you think you will need in the next four years, 'cause it is only going to get more expensive. Don't even think of doing anything that would involve capital gains as the rate for that little endeavor will also double from 7 to 14%. He has already guaranteed that! This guy is one of those who will not learn from past mistakes and history. He is going to take us right back to all the failed policies of the 60's and 70's! Super high taxation and more and bigger government, and look where we are now! School systems suck, colleges and universities are infested with all the Left leaning, no, BENT OVER to the ground, socialist professors who infect our kids with their outdated and outmoded brand of politics. "And the beat goes on" so Cher would say.

More on Kilowatts

After reading all the story and the comments in the BIT on Friday about the cost of electricity here on BI, I just had to drop in with this short observation.
The last time we had a full blown "energy crisis" here in the US, back in the 70's, we, Verna and I, decided after a lot of digging and homework to put up the WECS that still stands in our yard. Over the intervening 27 years this thing, and it's previous incarnation, the Jacobs windmill, has provided this house with a few HUNDRED THOUSAND kilowatts of energy! I have managed to actually lose the book that I recorded weekly totals in for 19 of those years, so I have no written records to fall back on, but the above estimate is a pretty fair one.

Just since the new inverter with all sorts of new innovations was installed in the winter, we have produced over 1800 KW's! For the month just past the total was 501 kws! That was enough to TOTALLY cover our usage from BIPCO if it had all been directly applied to our appliances. But as we are not a "stand alone" system, some of it goes back to the power company, and some we use directly.

Now the investment 27 years ago was a lot less than it would be now, but wind energy IS NOW AND ALWAYS WILL BE, a viable adjunct to power generation and usage here on BI. I don't give a rats ass what all the EXPERTS say, it is a workable technology! I think 27 years of daily contact with the technology should lend SOME credence to that statement.

So somewhere down the line, and in the not to distant future, a lot of people are going to have to give up their tightly held views of "view sheds" in order to be able to,"view-their-sheds" in the dark of night! I thought the comment by Kay Lewis was a very telling one. They are the people who would have an unrestricted view of those proposed WECS were they to become reality. They, apparently, unlike most of us, have open minds able to assess the future and its needs, and don't let personal feelings cloud and distort those ideas.

But while waiting for those gigantic ones to appear and a cable from them to be diverted to BI, (Yeah, RIGHT!!), what to do? If I was just coming to the realization that I needed to do SOMETHING, I would get in contact with the Bergy company out in Norman Oklahoma and see what models of WECS they have for sale. Then I would "hie me hence" to the Town Council and work on them to lift the STUPID RESTRICTIONS that were put in place by a previous council! Even "they" had to know that this day was coming, and here it is! Without much doubt in this feeble mind, I believe this little imbroglio is going to last a lot longer than the last one!

So in order to relieve the burden on your pocket book, don't be waiting for some pie in the sky innovation like wave generation and BIG MILLS to appear and save us all from 'Those Arabic Devils', take some of those pennies and cover the roof of your house with the new generation of solar panels and get ANY SIZED wind generator you can afford and start doing something with some sort of reality attached to it! Immigration

Well this one is sure to piss off a few people, but I'm going to tell it like I see it. The Governor of RI has begun a process that just MAY spread all across this country! But not if the ACLU and all the rest of very liberal and vociferous lefties have their way.

What I'm talking about is Governor Carceri's (sp)executive order telling all employers in the State to check the citizenship status of all their employees. If they are not ALL here legally, "they are going to be deported back to where they came from"! And it is about time someone started to show some guts and take some action! The federal government doesn't seem to really do anything about the problem except mouth platitudes and pander to the lobby groups while filling everyone full of crap!

So right off the bat, the leader of the Hispanic republicans in RI quit his post in protest! Well good for him! Go and get another real job and pay some taxes if you have been or are an ILLEGAL ALIEN!

Just exactly why is it that people can just come and sneak into this country, and then take advantage of all of our social services, fill up the hospitals and schools with more illegal kids, get free medical care, food stamps, pay no taxes, and send a lot of the money back home,and when someone protests, use their NON EXISTENT, so called "rights" under OUR constitution to claim that all these things are theirs and that they are "entitled to them" just by the fact that they are here? The fact of the matter is, THEY HAVE NO LEGAL RIGHTS! In most other countries of the world, they would get kicked right out on their asses with a big boot to the aforementioned anatomical location!

I am NOT focused on just Mexican, Guatemalan, or other Central American natives. If you don't have a problem with American Indian descendants, then you shouldn't have a problem with these people either. I say that because if they are not pure blooded N/C/S Americans, they have mixed blood, and those "donors" came from Spain, Portugal, Italy and other countries in Europe that were mostly white last time I looked.

I just say to send them ALL back to their point of origin and let them do it the legal way! If it is going to take them 10 to 15 years to do it, and they don't like the waiting period, gang together in your OWN COUNTRY, and get it straightened out instead of running away! Although I guess that's what most of us did way back in the beginning! I think one of my ancestors was trying to prove he didn't kill and eat one of the Kings deer when he decided to emigrate back in the very early 1600's!

So come on Governor, don't back down from all these loud mouths who talk a good game, but when it comes time to put up (THEIR money) or shut up, they seem to fade into the woodwork! And the next time that guy from the ACLU starts running his mouth, remind him of what the 4 letters of his organisation mean, AMERICAN Civil Liberties Union!! NOT ILLEGAL Alien Civil Liberties Union! Then kick his turncoat ass out the door to!! TIFN Okay Cyber man, it's your turn. I promise I'll leave your post up!

When I retired from active military service after 20 years and came back to the Island to live, I bought a very small, about 200-250 customer LPG business from my cousin who wanted to quit. So for about $10K we began. One of the benefits of serving for 20 years in the military was the ability to get free medical care for me and my family for life. Kids only until they were 18. Being located where we were, made it very inconvenient to run to Newport every time you got a cut or one of the kids got sick, so we decided to invest in some sort of medical care that would take care of us very locally. So we joined the RI Blue Cross program and paid to it, for 33 years, some pretty damned huge fees to get this convenience to us. Over the last 33 years, the total has finally tripped over $1.12M. Why so high? because we chose to go with the very best program they had, that we could afford, in order to cover all possible illness's.

So there we were cruising along and only had to use the coverage a few times. One hysterectomy, not mine, a couple of heart stent implants, and numerous minor accidents, broken bones, sniffles etc.

Then one day not so long ago, I managed to reach the ripe old age of 65 and another check arrived from the government, telling me that I was to receive this money for having paid into the system since 1956 the money called, Social Security taxes! Wonderful says I to myself, "found money"! I thought it was long gone! But I thought at the time that I really didn't need it, at least not yet, as we had put away some money, had a good sized 401K and my military pay that would continue until I croaked. Plus I was doing that socially accepted practice of doing "consulting" for my former business and was receiving a small monthly stipend for that service. Oh yeah, I had to fill lots of 20 pound LPG gas grill bottles also on a daily basis, but I do digress.

In the middle of the page with the notification of the largess I was to receive from our rich Uncle Sam, was a sentence that said I was to have $98 a month deducted from my check in order to pay the fees for Medicare! I was to be AUTOMATICALLY enrolled, I wasn't asked, I was told I was enrolled, thanks to the foresight and promises of past politicians who thought that every person in the US regardless of wealth or lack thereof should be accommodated at the slop trough of public money! Screw the thought of where the money was to come from in the future to pay for their largess, just promise the folks back home unlimited access to the national treasury and let the chips fall where they may. Anything to enable themselves to stay there at the trough with their snouts shoved in so deeply they could hardly breath! Oops! digressing again!

Now this $98 a month was going to replace that approximately $2600 a month that had been the private cost to us before hand. See where this is going? So now I have my "Uncle" vying with RI BC/BS to see just who will "NOT HAVE TO PAY" for any medical bills I might incur! That's what happened! BC/BS knew damned well when I had crossed that 65 yr. threshold and still they greedily collected that annual fee from us, for FIVE years, knowing full well that they weren't going to be the primary payer as I had also joined in at the national slop though! So finally after 33 years they ejected us from the best program and put us in some other one that picks up only PART of any fees that medicare won't pay! And as yet they have felt no need to refund any portion of those fees collected from us for the past 5 years. No wonder half the "Wheels" up there are under indictment for one thing or another!

So I came across this news clip of the Administrator of the GAO, Government Accounting Office, (who is the fiscal watchdog for the "Entitlement give away boys club" e'er, that would be Congress in case you didn't know,) who has given up trying to talk to those boys about rectifying their ways, and is going directly to the public in the form of business owners, large and small, and just generally, US. He has been telling it like it really is, and what it "is", is that if they don't do some fixing starting right now, the economic future of this country as a viable entity is in absolute jeopardy of ceasing to exist!! Right now, my grandchildren have one for sure thing to look forward to for the next 75 years, and that is, that they are going to have to pay for all the entitlements handed out so zealously by the previous, present, and future STUPID, and GREEDY politicians we continue to elect. Mr. B Hussein Obama, and Shrillary will do NOTHING but continue to contribute to this slide into fiscal death! I do NOT exclude Mr. McCain from this group either. The only person I see who is trying to get handle on things locally is Our Governor Mr. Carceri (sp)!

It is Saturday morning about 5 am when I started this rant. I think I'll put a full bottle of Baileys in my coffee and start the day off right! TIFN!

More Sand Dunes!!

Went out for a Sunday afternoon drive yesterday to continue to do my part in wasting some of our precious natural resources. Coming out of the Neck I looked over at the dunes and there perched on the very top of one of the bigger ones was a group of people numbering about eight. There they were, waving their arms about and taking in the view. And I'm sure loosening up a few more roots of the dune grass. Moving along the road, I come to a big white van parked there with this name emblazoned on the side; "Northeastern University, Department of Environmental Sciences". So it just made me wonder which department it was that goes around contributing to the distruction of dunes! And did we invite them? Or did they just show up of their own accord? Wind, waves, and our own home grown vandals do enough to them without importing them from wherever! TIFN

Big Hole in the Road

Well I see Lisa Sprague's cry for fiscal responsibility fell on deaf ears as usual. I guess those "upstate" folks just had to spend all that money to fix something that was not broken. True, it will be nice for the front street all the way to the BIG to have nice sidewalks on both sides of the road, but all that dough spent on the Bridgegate Square renovation could have better spent by finishing out the sidewalk from in front of the City Drug down to the Old Harbor dock. Now there is a section that is in terrible shape! While out riding around on my "ped" and sticking my nose in other peoples business, I have seen three people take a dive to the ground between Ernies and the next building up the street. Can't remember what it is called this week.

The rains last night, and the ones to come later this week have already worked its relentless, continuing havoc on more of the Neck Road right beside the Trustum Dodge monument. Well I guess we have to wait for the waves to actually begin to break over the road before anyone will behoove themselves to get moving on some sort of preservation of what is left of the dunes there.

Actually, the dunes that used to be there are long gone!! Go down there at low tide and sit on the one remaining seat. As you look out to sea, you will see three large rocks sticking up from the seabed. They are almost in a straight line from the beach outward. See that one the furthest out? When I was between 1 year old and 10-11 yrs. old, that was where the edge of the water was located! My Mom had a big-assed old Packard touring car, about 20 years old at the time, that she used to park right where the monument is now. It would sit there pulled well off the road and perpendicular to it! That thing was about 24 feet long! We would gather up all the beach paraphenalia and make a mad dash to climb over two dunes of black sand, and then three lesser ones made up of white and black sand before even reaching the beach proper! Then it was another few yards the waters edge. Now in my lifetime, I'm now tripping over 70, the beach has totally disappeared. How much longer do you think it will be before those destructive waves will be crashing on the road ?

An alternative to building up next too the road would be to put a nice big long new breakwater from the Old Harbor all the way to Mansion Beach or further. That would stop the big waves, and make one hell of a nice protected harbor for all those yachtsmen who spend no money , TIC, to drop anchor! Wha chu 'tink?? TIFN

Pennies from heaven

Some of you folks who live here on the Island year round may have noticed that my WECS, Wind Energy Conversion System, otherwise known as a windmill has been in the "Bent" position for the last two and a half months. Most of the time it had been inactive was spent waiting for the Manufacturers rep to come and see what the matter was. Well they finally showed up one day in early January and took the guts out of the inverter and sent them to Norman OK to be repaired. We decided at that time to put out the money for a brand new inverter that is supposed to be about ten times more efficient than the old one which is 15 years old. So the new one arrived about three weeks ago and was finally installed yesterday, and the switch was flipped to commence those above mentioned "pennies from heaven" raining down into my oh so empty coffers! It was started at 1700 and as of today at the same time, it has made ALL the juice needed by this house for about two and one half days!! The meter reads a nice satisfying 52 KwH's produced in 24 hours! Hot Damn, those electrons are pouring into the basement in torrents! Just have to remember to go down there with rubber boots on in case there are any stray ones oozing around on the floor! TIFN

Rogers Ramblings

Did anyone else happen to see Roger Clements little appearance at a congressional hearing a couple days ago? Just what the hell was he doing there? What in hell ever motivated those idiots to call him there in the first place? Are they in some way trying to "protect our youth" from the evils of steroid use? It didn't work the last time they tried it, so other than getting themselves a lot more face time, I wonder just what it is that makes them tick?

The part that really frost's my butt is that they are spending all this money and time on something they have no business sticking their collective noses in! Is not 'Major League Baseball" a private enterprise? They have hundreds of rules about how to play the game and what you can and cannot do as a member of these teams. So if one of their players wants to stick needles in his ass to grow bigger muscles, just how does that come under the pervue of the US congress? It is up to the owners of these teams to discipline their transgressors.

If it was up to me, they would sign a contract when they first begin their careers that says,"if you use illegal stuff ONE (1) time, you will be fired and can never play again in this league". Do you suppose something like that will ever happen? Nah! Not in my lifetime, or yours. TIFN

If you listened to the Main Stream Media, there was a TERRIFIC TURNOUT for
Democrats at the Iowa Caucuses AND MAJOR CHANGE is in the wind.

All FOUR of the TOP Republican Candidates EACH exceeded the TOTAL NUMBER OF
VOTES CAST for ALL Democrats.

In fact, it appears that NO Democrats even bothered to show up in Nine of
the 1781 Iowa Precincts. All 1781 Precincts reported Republican votes.

THERE WERE ALMOST 9 TIMES THE NUMBER OF VOTES CAST IN THE REPUBLICAN
CAUCUSES VERSES THE DEMOCRAT CAUCUSES.
