Dry, mealy and damned good keepers all through the winter. I'll try that with the Onion sets if I can still find any up around here. I can see why Arizona passed their recent law, for all the attention it has caused. Ain't it a shame? Some ranchers over there have to wear a dang pistol and carry a rifle in their pickup, it's that threatening.

Now Ev you mentioned parsnips and roasted 'snips are one of my favorites! I hope they work for ya. Not many people know about 'em, but they are far superior to most root crops in my opinion, and much better than carrots.

I'll be interested to know what kind of taters you're growing because BI is famous for its root crops. Turnips and rutabagas are so-so, love them too, but a good tater ain't nothing like you get in the store!

Oh, remember to set some onions if a row gets picked out. You'll thank yourself many times for that.
sammieSamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06904821424581969401noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9924834.post-65291187739942632152010-06-09T17:18:08.284-04:002010-06-09T17:18:08.284-04:00Uh, Sierra Verde is in AZ BTW!!Uh, Sierra Verde is in AZ BTW!!Everetthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05992573194167721951noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9924834.post-16343269799486647802010-06-09T17:16:43.999-04:002010-06-09T17:16:43.999-04:00I've got ten Roma plants doing well right now....I've got ten Roma plants doing well right now. I use them mostly for making sauce in the fall. Spent most of the last 6-8 days getting the last of the seeds in the ground. Three kinds of corn, two different cukes, one climber one sprawler, Parsnips, peas four different beans bush and pole, rutabagas, lima beans, 16, 25' rows od3 different spuds, about 14, 25' rows of onions, 3types, hubbard squash, butternut squash, zucchini, summer crookneck, it just goes onn and on but I've got 15-20 family members help with the weeding and the eating!!!
I have a friend who owned a house here on the Island for 35 years who now lives 10 miles from the border in Serria Verde and they DO travel through his backyard and all his neighbors too, He is seriously thinking about moving but no one will buy his house and he is 85 years old a WWII vet who had three ships sunk out from under him!!! BTW, who the hell would want to go to SPI anyway??? Isn't it covered with oil yet? Seriously on this, I hope to hell you DO NOT get any of that crap down there.

Hang in there dude!Everetthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05992573194167721951noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9924834.post-89737771454996418482010-06-09T10:52:53.724-04:002010-06-09T10:52:53.724-04:00I agree with some of that, although I think the &q...I agree with some of that, although I think the "border violence" thing is was over-hyped. it's not like thousands of Mexicans and OTMs are running through my backyard with machine guns!

And by the way. many of these folks came over with a legal visa and over-stayed their time, I'd say over 60 percent of them although I have no clue, really.

Talk about backyards, this year I planted a small raised bed garden in the front yard. The cucumber and eggplant and Roma tomatoes have been great. I highly recommend the "Roma" or plum style as it handles extremes pretty well, avoids blossom end rot, and is larger than a cherry tomato which is worthless on a sandwich.

Oh and the Roma hybrids don't even need to be staked up, which I like. Let them go wild, even those "sucker stems." The weight of the fruit doesn't sag down to the ground. Might give 'em a whirl. The very last paragraph tells How and under what conditions it can be temporarily suspended! Notice the word "generally" ! Enjoy.

The Posse Comitatus Act is a United States federal law (18 U.S.C. ยง 1385) passed on June 18, 1878, after the end of Reconstruction, with the intention (in concert with the Insurrection Act of 1807) of substantially limiting the powers of the federal government to use the military for law enforcement. The Act prohibits most members of the federal uniformed services (today the Army, Navy, Air Force, and State National Guard forces when such are called into federal service) from exercising nominally state law enforcement, police, or peace officer powers that maintain "law and order" on non-federal property (states and their counties and municipal divisions) within the United States.
The statute generally prohibits federal military personnel and units of the National Guard under federal authority from acting in a law enforcement capacity within the United States, except where expressly authorized by the Constitution or Congress. The Coast Guard is exempt from the Act.Everetthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05992573194167721951noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9924834.post-70627712271245480742010-06-07T17:14:22.987-04:002010-06-07T17:14:22.987-04:00Hi Sam, I do believe that the Posse Commitatus rul...Hi Sam, I do believe that the Posse Commitatus rule about not using the military "in country" was in reference to legitement American citizens. All these Illegal Imm's are not by any definition of the word, American Citizens! And so I would assume they are NOT protected by that law! Damned if I know for sure, but it is way past time to just just sit back and let all comers cross the border unchallenged. Just how long do you think it will be before a suitcase dirty nuke crosse with those thousands of dope mules! I truly suspect it has already been done and some day soon we are going to reap the results of our laxity in enforcing the entrance rules.
Did you ever read the rules that Mexico employs as regards immigrants TOO THEIR COUNTRY? Draconian to say the least!
Hows that garden coming? I've been spending a good part of my time working in mine. If I can keep my mind on something for more than a a few seconds I'll see if I can get a few pictures and post them! Yay, about time. Fire 'em all.

Hey what's your feeling about the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878? That law says the Federal government cannot use military force against people who are in the US. That's why the National Guard usually does support functions and recon instead of being on the front line.

Repeal it?

-sammieSamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06904821424581969401noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9924834.post-72839768795816356022010-06-06T22:20:32.714-04:002010-06-06T22:20:32.714-04:00Hey just went and looked and lo, there you were!

Bring back all the...Sam, Yeah I've got an idea. Bring back all the guys from Afganiraq and deploy them where it will actually do some good! Along the southern border for a start! ANYBODY that steps across that line has a nice hot lead lunch. If they are in need of asylum, go to a legal border crossing and apply like thousands, nay millions have done before.
"It would cost way too much to deport 18M illegals" is the mantra posed by the open border jerks. Just how much will the American taxpayer pay out of their pockets during the lifetime of the Illegal IM to feed, cloth and give free medical care to he and his offspring in perpetuity? Arizona has already incurred a 330million debt doing just that in the last couple of years! Add in what Kalifornia has paid out and Hell thats enough to give most all of those "Illeagles" a free ticket to anywhere in the world with a couple hundred K's as spending money!
I'll agree that up till now that we have failed to secure our borders, but disagree most vehemently that we "cannot win"! It just takes more and more people to open their eyes to the road to perdition that we are on, get off their liberal asses and vote EVERYONE in office now, OUT!! Repubs as well as Demos!
BTW are you still on Blogger? I checked the other day and you hadn't posted anything for a while. More and more troops, officers, and agents are being charged with rooting out the aliens.

The really strange part if that businesses love to hire illegals, and the dope-heads love to do their imported drugs. That's not an argument to stop enforcing the borders, but that our nation is hopelessly addicted to cheap labor and expensive drugs.

By all accounts, we're losing both wars, in spite of spending billions in taxpayer money. It is fashionable to talk smack, be all tough about immigration, and be like "Sheriff Joe," but face it we have failed, and we cannot win.

I have no idea what to do about it. I guess they can round up all 330 legal Americans to root out the 10 or 12 million illegals. Sounds like a major pain in the butt to me ... anyone got a better solution besides that?
samSamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06904821424581969401noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9924834.post-56666890918037820012010-05-30T10:23:49.197-04:002010-05-30T10:23:49.197-04:00AWESOME post Everett!!
